Snowflake Challenge, Day Two

ETA: Having now skimmed a few people's entries (it's so late, ugh) I don't think I did this right? Because everyone else's are more of a "why i love x and you should too" and mine is sort of... not that. Oh well.

Challenge #2

In your own space, write a promo, manifesto or primer for your fave character, ship or fandom.

UGH, I wish I'd logged on this morning. Now I don't have much time to get my thoughts in order or even to pick a fandom or a pairing and ugh. And I have OTP's in every damn fandom. How about a quickie?

The Walking Dead, Daryl/Glenn. This one goes allllll the way back to the first season of The Walking Dead in 2010. Daryl is introduced as the foul-tempered redneck with a chip on his shoulder. Glenn is the Korean-American former pizza delivery boy with the strategic mind. Everything should point to the redneck waiting nothing to the do with the Korean kid. But there's lots of indications that Daryl feels quite strongly about Glenn. When Rick, Glenn and Daryl go back to Atlanta to fetch Daryl's racist, misogynistic brother, who's been left chained on a rooftop (long story), and Glenn gets himself kidnapped in the process, Daryl not only *loses his freakin' mind* but he also *abandons his search for his brother in favour of saving Glenn.* Then, when their camp is attacked and they are rounding up dead bodies, Daryl wants to pile all the bodies together for a quick dead-people bonfire. He ignores everyone who protests, until GLENN insists that their people get burials. Daryl quickly acquiesces.

Those are the two moments that I remember most strongly. It's been quite a few years since I've rewatched the show but I know there were quick a few other moments that "fit" for me. (I realllllly need to do a rewatch!) It's just super interesting to me that these two vastly different people could get together. It's interesting, too, that Frank Darabont (the original showrunner) had floated the idea of making Daryl gay in canon. How different things could have been if he'd stayed with the show and gone through with the idea.
