*makes devil horns*

I've come to love Sundays. It's the one day that I literally allow myself to do whatever I want without any guilt of, "But I really shoullllld be doing x, y, z." And part of what I did yesterday was spend a few hours reading this amazing book.

78. We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix

Kris Pulaski spent 10 years slogging through the bar scene with her heavy metal band Durt Wurk only to see their lead singer sell out the band on a night that has left gaping holes in all of their memories. When the singer announces a final tour, Kris seeks out her old bandmates and sets in motion a chain of events that will reveal what truly happened 20 years before.

I read this in a single evening because I simply couldn't stop. It's perfectly paced, with true desperation in Kris's headlong search and a few breathing moments in between. The nature of evil is what struck me most, because the paranormal creatures that we see are not the scariest thing in this book. The group mind and the individual evils that Mr. Hendrix depicts will not leave me anytime soon. That’s where things get truly gruesome. The novel tackles some big topic issues like consumer culture, but it shines in its female empowerment themes, all the more impressive from a male author.

** I wrote down all the book titles of e-books that I currently have unread on my Kindle and that were available at the library but not earmarked for next year. I then drew two names out of a hat empty puzzle box. (I will be using the second book for another prompt.)
