Why oh why did Michael Johns get sent home last week? The men are 100x better than the women! *sigh*
This is Mariah Carey Week. I only know 3 of the 7 songs being sung tonight. I'm not sure whether that's an advantage or a disadvantage. :|
David Archuleta sings "When You Believe"
Is David wearing leather pants? That is so wrong. Boring verse, nice chorus, no issues with his voice whatsoever, but ultimately this is a really boring ballad again. Remember when David sang "Shop Around" waaaay back in round one? Where is that David?
Carly Smithson sings "Without You"
Argh. Too low in the beginning, screechy at the end, boring and repetitive. Was she flat or sharp or something? Because to me it sounded like she was never hitting the notes quite right. And those black tights and tunic top make her look 50 lbs heavier than she is. [/shallow] HATE HATE HATE.
Syesha Mercado sings "Vanishing"
Well, good control of her voice I guess, but then she starts screaming the same note for what felt like 75 minutes straight and I kind of hate her again.
Brooke White sings "Hero"
I think she did a great job putting a folksy spin on this song. She seemed to get a little lost at the end and got ahead of the music? But overall, best of the night so far.
Kristy Lee Cook sings "Forever"
Hmm. Well, it sounded like something I'd hear on the country station that sometimes gets played at work, so that's a plus for Kristy. I thought she had good control over her voice as well, and she's the only one doing country so I imagine she gets some votes from the country fans. (Steve Perry still hates you.)
David Cook sings "Always Be My Baby"
I'm not a huge fan of his lower register, but this is a great version of this song. It almost has a bit of a stalker-ish vibe to it. I didn't like the slurry bit at the end, but this was so unique and different and that's exactly what this show should be encouraging. And OMG IS HE CRYING? Oh, he's crying. This is just so... so... I'm melting a little bit. And his brother in the audience seeing him sing. Just... gah.
Jason Castro sings "I Don't Wanna Cry"
Love the Jason was really into the moment. He sang out more, he looked confident, and his soft voice was really really pretty. Well done!
My Predictions
If there is any justice this should be an all-female bottom three. But considering Michael Johns went home last week (America, what the HELL are you thinking?), who knows what will happen this week? But my best guess is a bottom three consisting of Syesha, Carly, and Brooke. As for who will go home... oh PLEASE LET IT BE CARLY.
