Celebrity Duets

Lucy Lawless sang "Total Eclipse of the Heart" with Bonnie Tyler: Well. She didn't hold back as much as she normally does, so I'll give her that. Her voice was still weak, though. Also, I don't think anybody could actually sound good with Bonnie Tyler. Well.. maybe Rod Stewart. Heh. My, Lucy looked gorgeous.

Alfonso Ribeiro sang (something) with Jon Secada: That beginning was rather boy-band-ish. Think Alfonso sounded GREAT, he sounded in tune and I loved the ending. He nailed it.

Hal Sparks sang "18 and Life" with Sebastian Bach: SEBASTIAN BACH. When they showed the silhouettes of the celebrity singers at the beginning of the show, I KNEW THAT WAS SEBASTIAN BACH, OKAY. And I squeed. A lot. Coz okay, I used to love him. I still kind of love him, even though he's pretty much a total dick and he has the IQ of peanut brittle. But he can SING, baby. Also... omg the hair. Anyway. Um. Sebastian can usually sing, but why was he holding back tonight? And why was he dressed like Pat Boone? I do not get it. Hal continues to enunciate ev-er-y syll-a-ble and his voice cracked and (like David Foster pointed out) he doesn't understand that there is a level between 2 and 10. I think Hal could be really good if he would just get that he can SING and not scream ALL THE TIME and when they DO scream, they still stay IN TUNE. Coz Hal, LISTEN TO THE ROCK RECORDS YOU APPARENTLY LOVE. They do not over-enunciate and they do not operate at Level 10 throughout the whole song. Okay? Okay.

Lucy sang "Fly Me To The Moon" with Smokey Robinson for her second song: Still weak, but she was having fun and I liked him. She doesn't deserve to win, but she seems like she's having fun out there. So.

Alfonso sang (something) with Gladys Knight for his second song: NAILED IT. That actually sounded like an established duet that was just doing their latest single release or something. Really REALLY professional. Alfonso deserves to win this thing. (And I think I am the only person who does not know what 'The Carlton Dance' looked like, but... that was pretty amusing.)

Hal sang "Lady" with Dennis DeYoung: I was hoping Hal would challenge himself a little and invite Wynonna back. Dennis has been married to the same woman for 36 years. I LOVE THAT. I think Hal did a better job on this one; his verse was actually very good. YAY HAL FOR SINGING. I found myself grinning during the song... good job Hal! I would think that his girlfriend would brush her hair when she knew Hal was going to be singing to her though. (I think I am particularly mean tonight. It's been a rough couple of days, okay?)

You know, as critical as I am of Hal... I totally know that if Gale or Randy were on this thing, they could sing, oh, The Sesame Street Theme Song using Elmer Fudd's voice and I would (if I were American) vote for them 8675643 times just to get them to continue on to next week. So. QaF/Hal fans that have kept Hal in this thing, you pretty much rock. (And I also admit, even though I think Alfonso deserves to win, I kind of WANT Hal to win just so it's a big ol' QaF victory. So.)
