Eye update!

Okay, here's what's up. So yesterday I got all dressed up fancy, and as I am wont to do when I am trying to look pretty, I wore my contacts. After a couple hours of wearing them, I started to notice a strange blotchy bit in the center of my vision in my right eye. I fucked around with my contact a little bit, figuring it was probably something on the lens. It didn't hurt, though, so I eventually ignored it until I could take them out. Once I took them out, though, I noticed that the blurry patch was still there. I spent a long time looking for anything in my eye, and couldn't find anything. It didn't *hurt*, it just felt like there was maybe something in my eye. I flushed it out with water and figured that if I just went to bed whatever was in there would work itself out while I slept.

Then I woke up the next morning and the blurry spot had grown to preclude over 50% of my vision in that eye, and it *hurt* really badly. I went to the co-op to buy some eye drops, but they *burned* when I put them in. I immediately began freaking the fuck out, calling my dad and asking him if he thought this merited a trip to the ER. Seeing as I was in a lot of pain and couldn't see very well at all out of that eye, we decided it was, and I called a cab.

After a long wait in the ER (during which time my eye progressively hurt more, so eventually I was crying and keeping it completely closed and freaking out that I was going to be permanently blind in that eye), I was checked in. They had me try to read an eye chart with my good eye (almost all the way down) and my bad eye (I could read the first two rows). Then they gave me some numbing drops (yay!) and checked my eye out-- nothing in it anymore, but the cornea is pretty badly scratched. They think I might have had something under my contact the night before. Unfortunately, right after the exam the numbing wore off and it hurt even worse, and they refused to give me more numbing drops (apparently they are bad for your eyes). They did give me a prescription for some antibiotic drops, and some oxycodone (yay!) but it was pretty rough going until I got them filled and was able to take them.

I did not get a patch, because when you have one eye open the other will still move under the lid, which still hurts. So I had to keep both eyes closed until just recently (it still hurts, but not as badly). I am pretty drugged up. Supposedly it will be significantly better tomorrow, and completely better by Tuesday, and I have a follow up with an optometrist on Wednesday to okay everything. So I am okay (feeling pretty awesome with the oxycodone, actually), and not going to be permanently blind or anything. Also I'd like to thank everyone for your messages; Robin read them to me (because she's awesome and kept me company via phone) and they made me smile and feel loved. And Michael is awesome for driving me home for the hospital. Basically I love you all (and it's not just the drugs talking).
