I saw the movie tonight.
It was awful.
Now, I'm not a fan of the last book. I thought the camping, interspersed with deus ex escapes from near-certain death, followed by a battle made epic only my the senseless killing of a number of characters, was terrible. I also thought that Rowling abandoned a chance to send any sort of message in the final book, instead settling for "good people are good because they are good" and "evil people are evil because no one loved them as a child" and "evil people cannot become good, and good people cannot become evil, regardless of their actions."
All bad messages.
But I went into the movie expecting that, and so was prepared to deal with a lackluster moral message in favor of special effects, action and magical fighting.
No.
Not only did the movie fail to deliver good action sequences, or any semblance of tension, but they changed the only fucking good parts of the book.
I won't spoil it - I'll let the movie inform you - but goddamn that was so much less enjoyable than it should have been. And anything else I could have done.
