Wiki! [personality]
When Snape was young, he was a socially awkward but brilliant child who made clumsy attempts at reaching out to others who were "special" like himself. He's always had a drive to be acknowledged as someone of great skill, as someone a cut above the rest. Except for Lily, who was the only person truly his friend, Snape never made any friends that weren't for that purpose. He fell in with Voldemort and the Death Eaters because they touted the idea that wizards were somehow special and better than muggles (non-magic folk) and he had always despised his muggle father, who hadn't been a very kind man, it's true. This then, is how Snape got his start at turning into the bitter, angry and anti-social man he grew up to be.
Snape is exceptionally intelligent, and a very skilled and ingenious wizard. He's responsible for inventing many spells and perfecting the brewing of many potions. Though he rarely shows it, he has a respect for those who are creative and skilled, though he has little time for those who merely repeat information they've been told or read in books. He places great importance on the need of any branch of magic to expand and evolve.
Unfortunately, Snape is also bitter, and hates most people. He can hold grudges for decades, and tends to be spiteful when he believes he's been wronged. He believes the worst in people, still carries prejudices against the non-magical community, and is prone to snap judgments. Once he makes a judgment about someone, it is very difficult, if not impossible to get him to change his opinion. He rarely accepts anyone as an equal, much less conceded they are better than he is. He still has a desire to be respected and acknowledged, but his past experiences have made him less eager to go to the lengths he did when he was younger.
Snape has lived a double life, ever since he realized the depth of his mistake and how it endangered the one person he really cared for. He is well aware of the importance of his actions in maintaining his facade, though even at the height of Voldemort's rule, he did what he could to mitigate the worst of the damage. Instead of assigning students to terrible tortures, he sent them to the groundskeeper, who he knew would not hurt or endanger them intentionally. Though accepting of his fate as being a hated person, there is one thing that he can't abide. He hates being called a coward, because he has spent most of his life in great danger for the cause of good.
He is dedicated, and even if he hates what he must do or the people he must help, will continue to do it. As much as he has disliked Harry Potter since the moment he met the boy, he swore to protect him and see him defeat Voldemort, and so he has carried that out (albeit sullenly and with great distaste), even when the two aims come into conflict. His dedication, however, comes with a dark-side. When he loves, it tends to be obsessive, to the point where he devotes his entire life to a dead woman's memory.
Snape is snarky and sarcastic, and prone to mocking. He's quite capable of engaging in conversation, but he would much prefer to hide himself away from people with books, which are one of the few things he can love without fear of disappointment. Underneath the surface, he carries a lot of guilt and self-loathing, for being responsible for a loved one's death, and he lives his life as an atonement for his past crimes. He's just very grumpy about it.
[orientation] Um, "Lily-sexual" He shows no desire whatsoever towards anyone else in canon and devotes his entire life to her memory after she dies.

[The audio comes on, and there is a short pause before someone clears his throat. There is little emotion in the voice, only a hint of well-controlled anger under the silky tone.]
A magical contract, of course. How...clever. There are, however, ways to safely break them. This wish is a farce; I was quite obviously without my wits about me at the time.
[There is another pause.] Now, I require a few necessities. Various herbs, primarily, and a freshly shed snakeskin. Those who can direct me to these and other items I require will be adequately compensated.
...I also require proper robes in a far less gaudy color.
[Prose Log]
Severus Snape was not pleased. He was angry, humiliated, and somewhat disturbed. He remembered well what had happened but somehow his...spirit had been captured. He had been relieved of his wand and informed of the completely unacceptable situation. He would not lower himself to perform any manner of work in such a lowly place as a brothel, no matter how much they tried to hide the dirty purpose behind gaudy silks and decorations.
What remained, then, was to discover a way free of the new tattoo, starkly black on his pale arm. He had kept the mark of a Death Eater out of necessity, no matter how many times he wished to remove it. There were ways, of course, and Severus had researched them, so he could be rid of it once the Dark Lord was finally gone in truth.
His thin mouth curved in a bitter smile. It seemed he wouldn't be around to see the aftermath, and surely the Potter brat couldn't manage to muck up dying of all things. It was sickening to know he had been the one to inform Lily's son--even if all he had of her was her eyes and not a shred of anything else. Potter's son, through and through.--that he needed to die, but it was done and the world would be safe. A Gryffindor's noble nature was good for something after all.
It was pointless to dwell on that, however, so Severus turned to his present task. His wand had been taken, so he was left with only his potion-making and knowledge of herbology. He had confidence that he could brew something sufficient given time. The only issue was that he might not have the time. The whispers of a timed curse attached to the innocuous tattoo had reached him and if there was one thing he could not save himself from, it was insanity. Twenty days, that was all he had.
It was truly a challenge worthy of a great potions' master.
