She will always remember the last time she saw his face. His brown eyes could charm their way out of breaking your heart.Even after all they've been through and what they were going through his smile could bring her to her knees."We'll always be best friends."He said.
They were by the beach. It was a full moon that night and it had an orange tint to it.The wind was blowing her hair,so the tears in her eyes were visible under the moon lit sky.He was wiping the tears from her dead pale face with his thumb. The touch of his hand made her lip quiver, but she couldn't stand to look into those eyes of his because she knew if she did,he would see her at her most vulnerable.
She kept saying "I don't want to care anymore." over and over again. It started to sound like pathetic begging for someone to save her from her feelings. She could feel her body sinking into the sand, until he hugged her tight and promised it would be okay.
Her biggest regret was believing him when he said that.He was the best let down, but the worst liar.He did it as though it were a talent. It was predictable, but he was so cunning that she still had faith in him.He was the only place that felt like home. The only wrong that felt right. He knew her the best, just as well as she knew him the best.
She wrote him letters that he would never see, just so she felt less lonely. She put a picture that he drew right beside her mirror so,when she saw herself smile, she knew it was because of him.He was special, different, and complex, or maybe it was just her feelings that were that way.She had a pair of his old socks that she kept just so she could smell them as disgusting as that may seem.Love to her was letters, pictures, scents, memories and the feeling she got in her heart every time she heard his name.Mike.There would always be signs of their love across town. His last name on the back of a jeep, their song on the radio and even movies on T.V.She couldn't escape it.It was all around her, even though she had tried many times to let him go.
Fate was keeping her in one spot.It was the same with him.Although he was very good at avoiding it and pushing through it,he knew that something was still there. He wore the bracelet she made him every night and day.It never left his wrist. He had the letters, the blankets, and the stuffed animal that they pretended was their kid.
She never thought that she would be one to fall in love at such a young age because she didn't believe in it.She thought that teenage romance was overrated and that kids didn't know what the real meaning was.Love was the type you see in movies. The ones you hear about in poems.Real love is rare and first loves are the hardest. He made her fall in love just as fast as he broke her heart. She was angry at herself for allowing him to hurt her,but she knew that she was never as happy as when she was with him."Things take time."She kept telling herself. She felt comfort in the belief that their love was "Forever and Always."
This relationship was recycled, not broken. It was not a classic,it was vintage. It was a roller coaster of emotion that gave her motion sickness. She was always waiting, but nothing changed.Distance was ripping them apart, but she refused to let go.He was a part of her past, present and future. She was determined to make him see it.Distance was supposed to make the heart grow fonder, but it was the reason he was giving up and taking the easy way out. They were like Ally and Noah from The Notebook, only they didn't know the outcome just yet.Maybe the story already ended, but maybe, just maybe,it was just beginning.
