How much longer was this going to take? Danny sighed, leaned back in his seat and watched the possible unsub flirting with Mel.

The perpetrator of the latest round of killings had been leading them a merry dance. All the profiling in the world hadn’t located any links between the victims. One was middle aged, one a teenager, one male and one female. It wasn’t until finally Carter had discovered that three out of the four victims had attended this so called ‘charm school’ that they’d had any leads at all.

The link was pretty nebulous though, so Web had authorised further investigation. Since Rebecca was still recovering from her last kidnapping, Mel was the undercover person by default.

Danny hadn’t liked that. Truth be told, he was uncomfortable when any of them, even Web, went undercover. It didn’t sit well with his protective nature. But Mel going under worried him more than he liked to admit. She couldn’t lie worth a damn and was a totally unbelievable actress.

He’d bought those facts up at the pre-planning but Web was on a crusade and ignored him and Mel was offended. She hadn’t forgiven him yet, refusing to talk to him unless she had to, and taking more risks than she should.

Look at her now, she should have given the unsub the brush off straight away, not engage him in conversation.

Danny sat up straighter as the talking finally died down and Mel headed off down the road. He waited a beat and then followed her slowly; he was going to have to talk to her about the risks she was taking. He sighed again - that was sure to go over like a lead balloon. Mel would ignore him for a week this time…

Mel heaved a sigh of relief as she slid behind the wheel. If Donald Robertson was the unsub he was the most normal and boring one she’d ever met. Two more minutes of his conversation and she might become a serial killer herself.

Of the three men targeted as the most likely suspects, he had always seemed a long shot to her. In Mel’s opinion, Terrie Peters, her next target, was a much better candidate for killer of the month. She’d been working hard on gaining Terrie’s confidence and they’d bonded over their dislike of the ‘fashion consultant’ employed by the charm school. They and several others of the students were going out on the town tonight.

Mel’s expression brightened. She couldn’t wait to tell Danny that he’d be spending the night at a male strip joint. It would serve him right, after his deriding her acting abilities, to have to sit through all that suggestive dancing…
