Vampire Defanged, The: How the Embodiment of Evil Became a Romantic Hero.

Dark Shadows

And there's not even a chapter for it? That is in reality on how the vampire went from EVIL to ROMANCE. The genesis is right there in the show itself. Barnabas Collins was brought in to be the Ultimate Evil. But the fangirls started like fawning over him and his dark, tragic past and he suddenly became a heart throb, the Hero for the show. To the point that when they tried to write him as Evil again, there was a major fan outcry and they quickly retconned some BS about Barnabas "pretending to have been evil" for those past few episodes and it MADE NO SENSE.

Ugh. Whatever it was the Leviathan plot (AKA Lovecraft should not be attempted for daytime television) anyway, and all of that was crap.

Wow, rant. Sorry. And I'm sure the book does address Dark Shadows, but I do not understand why it would not have its own chapter. I mean, my God, Dark Shadows did Interview with a Vampire in 1970! Sure, it was an excuse to get rid of some our main characters so they could go make the movie.

and I'm rambling again. but but *Dark Shadows flail*
