This is really going to be the first real clash of old-skool vs new-skool, like you say. The Master just can't be explained away by "Doctor must kill now - buh bai" - the whole relationship has to be summed up somehow. Prhaps that is why I felt cheated after the TV movie... Going to be interesting.
Hi there! I know you are an 'old school' Who fan (if you don't mind to be called that), while I'm just a pathetic little fan from the new school who is willing to learn: would you mind pointing me to a good place where to learn exactly who the Master is and what he did in the Old School episodes? I've read some issues about his regenerations being over, him having been sucked into the Eye of Harmony and all that, but I'm still pretty puzzled about the whole thing...
Thanks in advance for helping this poor newbie! *sends Tardis-shaped biscuits to say thanks*
"old school" is fine. Although I consider myself more "middle school" I came into it well after series ended, but also before the new one started. So I came to it with a mentality of how I treat all my other fandoms. Where your "real" Old School people are those who've been watching since forever.
No worries! After making this post I realized I can't just spout off on knowing old skool, when it's so hard to come by. That's why I've already started uploading the Master's very first story "Terror of the Autons" I'll have to f-lock it, so I'll try to remember to friend you before.
oh! and also for Master goodness there's the "New Beginnings" arc that is now available on DVD in both US and UK.
It's three stories that reintroduces he Master (in such a way that makes the end of "Utopia" mildly confusing), and also is the transition from Four to Five. Where you need all three to understand some of the plot, "Logopolis" is the best for Doctor/Master interaction.
You're right, I'd be okay too without the explanation. But considering how this new series works when the Doctor sez "We used to be friends, but for the past few hundred years we've tried killing each other." Someone is going to ask "Why" Now the Doctor can continue dodging the question. Or at best Martha and Jack will start coming to their own conclusions...which will still probably be "OMG, ex-boyfriend."
Again, with it new series it can't be an amusing shape without someone brining it up and Jack trying to steal...
Yes! the cape is awesome in that Pertwee way. At least he left the pea-green velvet alone.
I've been in stubborn "so fucking what" mode at the brother bullshit ever since Ten mentioned a brother, just because I know they're going to do it anyway. I've also prepared myself for a massive retcon fic/pic porn tsunami the moment I finish watching those two eps. As in actually creating one, just to spite Rusty.
