Understand that, if anything, my muse puts her parents and returning to them above everything else. So being social is the least of her concerns.
LOL RECONSTRUCTION.
CANON
Kalina Ann - God in her eyes. Capcom supplies no information on Kalina Ann, other than dropped hints that she was a loving wife and that she was pure and sweet. So Mary's devotion to her family comes from her mother. I like to think Mary emulates her mother, more so than her father. What differs from her OU self is how her mother groomed her to be. Versus her OU self, Mary was very close to her mother, yes, but she refuted early rebellious teenage behavior, due to her mother's worry. And Mary stayed home more often, even studied to appease her mother. It was her mother's love for her father that keeps her around. And who knows what happened in the OU world, but Kalina Ann tried to reason with her husband more often than not. Therefore, Mary literally tries to pick up where her mother left off. Mary still plans to avenge her, but in terms of destroying demons, to protect mankind and all of that. It's still a similar canon plight, just that she chooses not to kill her father. Instead of being by the inability to forgive, she is driven by the ability to show mercy.
Arkham - Mixed. Don't be fooled, her feelings for her father all over the place. I like to think Mary was close to her father at one point, seeing as Lady cried twice over him in game, and fell for his lie that he was possessed. And Mary is a walking example of that. Arkham, for lack of better words, treats her like dirt. He's rendered a strong-willed girl into a shaken, distressed, paranoid, and abrasive one. He's the root of most of Mary's odd behavior. He's a constant influence to her, she speaks about him a lot. She loves him, and she wants to believe in the better good of her father, because I think that Mary wants to keep her family. Just as Lady insisted her duty was to end by her hands. Whereas Lady confronted the reality of killing her father, not only for revenge, but for the fact the only way to stop him was to kill him, Mary hasn't.
As anyone can see, the way Mary clings to the false hope that her father didn't brutally murdered her beloved mother was his fault. She's pretty afraid of him, too, and who could blame her? He's locked her in a room in their house, left her screaming and crying for her mother and himself, leaving her in the suspense of "oh, god, am I next? Is he going to cut out my heart too?". But in a classic abuse scenario, he's told Mary that, "No one is going to believe anything you tell them about this, so there's no point in mentioning it". It took Mary a while to cooperate, and to really add to it, the man's even sent demons on his own child, to break her in, fuel her rage. Arkham's even gone far as funding her demonic hunting, knowing that he's forced his child to repress any grief and sorrow, so she can only take out violently. And... Mary is pretty violent. Even self-destructive.
She's blind, of course, she doesn't know she's falling for something that could literally cost her life. His constant lingering shadow keeps Mary struggling, her confusion, and Mary can wallow in grief and anger. She's angry and hurt, and because of Arkham, she's never allowed to show it. So she represses a lot of things, that can flare out with a single trigger, to blocking out a memory. Unfortunately, Mary has repressed many things, so her father's cruel manipulation will only come out in triggers. Like being touched ;_;.
TU!Vergil - Arkham's original intentions were to ease Mary's paranoia and distrust when he spoke of Vergil. The manga doesn't cover it, but I like to assume Kalina Ann has met him at one point. But after her death, Mary changed into quite honestly, a nervous wreck. But in order for Mary to budge out and not become sharp around Vergil, Arkham convinced her that he wasn't too bad, that he was a good guy. Lo and behold, Vergil is the only familiar face around, which Mary craves. Not the right person to cling to, but think of it this way: Lady trusts and respects Dante. When reversed, Mary trusts and respects Vergil. Out of everyone in Template, Vergil is who Mary acts like... well, Mary. Her old self. She feels comfortable around him, and he's usually the first person to hear her true fears and anger. Because of Vergil not being loud and obnoxious, like how Dante is for Lady, Mary generally is calm and down-to-earth with him.
EDIT: Aha, ;_; since his departure, she's reverted hardcore. He was a great influence on her, and as a result, she's angry that he's left. She knows it's not his fault, but blames him to a degree.
OU!Dante - New one. Will come back and rewrite
OU!Trish - Go die in a fire. No, Mary does not think HIGHLY of Trish, because Trish gets on her nerves easily. She tries ignoring her for the most part, but sometimes it doesn't really... work.
OU!Nero - They... have an interesting relationship. He's a friend to her, but she'll never say. Out of others in Template, Mary acts like a genuine sixteen year old girl with him. They without a doubt have a sibling like relationship, and I like to nickname their agruments "black holes" because if you pass by their arguments, you will get sucked in. And it's an ongoing joke that they bicker like a married couple. But before that, Mary didn't like the fact he had demonic blood. Though his love for Kirie has earned TREMENDOUS respect for Nero. She picks on him for the sake of keeping in touch with him. Yes, all those fights are just keeping company for him. It might sound weird, but Mary doesn't want him to feel upset or sad.
OU!Lady - Lady makes Mary nervous. The thing is with her, Mary knows it has to do with the name. And Mary knows, in the back of her mind, when it could get worse, Mary will walk away from everything and anything she has right now as Mary Arkham. In simpler terms, Mary Arkham knows Lady is what she really could be. This is what happens if Mary will ever come to terms with her surroundings. Mary, on the other hand, tries to mask her nervousness for having a duplicate. Yes, it bothers the hell out of her, but Mary knows... she can't tell herself to back down. So, it's a bit of psychological terms of facing yourself, or whatever. Which is good. Because... Mary quite literally needs to face herself. @_@
NON CANON
OU!Lucia - I think Mary honestly likes her, regrets not talking to her. They seem to have common ground. So.
OU!Joker - He's become the misplaced anger she has for her father's act. His open murder of people, as well as a child, has fueled her problems. However, she says she'd kill him, the fact remains... she never will.
OU!Vincent - ... Makes her highly uncomfortable, because out of anyone she's met here, he was the first to confront her issues. Good job, Vincent! No, really.
OU!Zell Dincht - Makes her feel very uncomfortable, too overly friendly.
OU!Selphie Tilmitt - Same as above.
OU!Bruce Wayne - Next to Vergil and Nicolai, he's another figure of trust. Not absolute, however. It's more so on how terms of how they met and how he treats her. He's one of the few Mary actually wants to appease, and to prove a point that she is not a child, that she is capable of handling herself. In a matter of speaking, he's also the first she's warmed up to (in her own way), outside of any sort of familiarity. What I mean is, she's close to Vergil and Nicolai, because of the fact they remind her of home, what once was. Bruce, on the other hand, is just as stubborn as she is, which is GOOD. Mary strives to show Bruce she is not a child and that she can handle herself. She's pretty... demanding to show that to him.
However, Bruce makes her severely uncomfortable. It's because on terms of how he assumed her to be older - and she does look older - he did hit on her a few times. But the kicker is Mary has a thing about touch, aside from people sneaking up behind her. When she was telling him she was expressing wishes to go after the Joker, he almost placed her in a closet, via Harvey Dent, which resulted in hitting a traumatic button to her. And that was enough to literally have a meltdown, which transcended into telling Bruce about what happened to her parents. She tells him because for some reason, he's a figure to her that has to know these things. It's almost as if she feels ashamed if she doesn't.
But coming back to wanting to appease him -- it's because she's grateful to have him. While she gets VERY defensive with any sort of comment, it can be seen as small cry for help. She can and will to do what she can to spite and refute anything she tells him, but will instantly regret it later, because she sees him as a genuinely good man. And she'll deny it very much, but Mary is pretty attached to him. Might translate to some sort of teenaged girly feelings, but Mary's social ineptness and mistrust leaves it hanging. Contradicting her trust for him, she's also leery of his paternal nature, which makes her question what will happen to him down the line. It's not likely he'll be "possessed", but him leaving for a short period has shaken this, and it upsets her, even though she knows it's not his fault. Also, interestingly enough, if you so much as look at him funny, you'll get a death glare.
EDIT: Also departed, and this has crushed her as much as Vergil's departure. His kindness has helped her, but unfortunately, this has caused the muse to turn into herself, and she questions anyone who wants to be kind to her, now.
OU!Nataku - He's a child to her, and a child she must protect. Nataku was the first person she was calm and receptive to, even friendly. She acts as either a mother or a big sister to him. She never loses her patience with him, because he's naive and innocent to her. If anything happened to him, she would be furious. He's not an acquaintance to jeopardize her comfort zone, because he's too naive to her to understand her confusion.
TU!Nicolai Conrad - Nicolai is literally her surrogate father. This is only because he reminds her so much of her father, before he went off the deep end. And in the grand scheme of things, Nicolai is like her father, by harboring secrets and manipulations. She isn't aware of Nicolai's true intentions, and Mary has been literally groomed in sticking close to her father, so it's likely she'll do the same with Nicolai. How she reacts around Nicolai is sound proof of how she'll act around Arkham. Mary is trusting of him, sadly, almost more than anyone in Template.
But don't get me wrong -- she's pretty weary and nervous of him too, because of how he is. She treads lightly around him, she's polite, because honestly? She's afraid of something that she doesn't know. And she's got every right to be, given that Nicolai's intentions are similar. As a result, she's kind of protective of him, drawn to that paternal aura. She's a little blind as well, because she doesn't see what she sets herself up more. Nicolai can also be a sign of her fears and hopes she puts on her father, as well as a sign of her father's malicious intents. Despite knowing of his soul pact, the manipulation her father has left on her, Mary looks over it -- or tries. Actually, she's pretty afraid of him, now. But she cares for him.
TU!Rufus Shinra - It's hard to say, really. You can look at it as flirting, it may or may not be. She wants to toss him down a flight of stairs, kick the shit out of him, and torment him. He was her first kiss, and oddly, she wants to make a point that she is not beneath him, and she's more dominant than Rufus. Though she is both appalled shocked by his feelings towards his parents. And honestly? Mary doesn't respect that. She feels sorry for him because he doesn't have the same thing with his parents as her, obviously. Especially his mother. But aside from that... it's... special. I don't know if she has a crush or not, same with Bruce, it's debatable. She's too confused with her own things to even KNOW.
TU!Albedo - To prove his point of regenerating, he shot himself in the head. Blood + Mary = Trauma. But she's repressed this, and it's another blocked memory. He's a little boy, and like Nataku, Mary likes to mother or act as an older sister around little kids. What the fuck is this shit.
OU!Yuri Hyuga - Weary of him and suspicious. She sees him as a threat to Nicolai, therefore, she wouldn't be afraid to confront him.
