I feel like I've been hibernating the last two weeks, even though I am working every waking moment to get content moved from one server to another... and then I sleep... and sleep... and sleep. I'll lay down for a short little nap and don't wake up for 7-8 hours. Some nap, eh? My schedule is all turned around, too, not that it really matters... as long as I'm awake to drive the kids to school in the morning and cook in the evening, everything's fine. I do think I'm sleeping more than normal, though. Normal for *me* that is. I wonder what's up with that? This isn't like me at all.
On the other hand, the last two weeks here have been some of the roughest as far as winter weather goes. A few nights ago it was -22F, the following night it was +21F. Snow on a daily basis, and I refuse to shovel, but I haven't yet gotten stuck. The morning after the -21F, the car's battery was completely dead, so I put the battery charger on it overnight and woke up to the entire car being packed in snow at least a foot deep. Yes, packed! I'm feeling like Nanook of the North. So much so that I actually posted the lyrics to that Frank Zappa song on my blog.
As far as the dedanaan domain goes... I think I've found the application I want to use, but in order to install it on the new server, I'm going to have to switch DNS, which will cut off my access to the old files. I'm thinking I should just take the sql dump and try to salvage stuff out of the raw text to put into the new app on the new server. Pain in the arse, but I'm not sure what else I can do at this point, since I'm not using the same app and the interfaces to each server are so different... and I'm apparently not geeky enough yet to figure it out on my own. (heh) Anyway, the new app I'm considering using is called Xaraya... and I think it's a fork of Drupal, but it seems much improved from what I've seen of Drupal. I'm just wondering how load-heavy it's going to be on the server. I'll be pissed if it's too slow loading. I can mitigate that somewhat by going easy on whatever modules I install, and keeping it minimally graphic... at least until I figure it all out.
I'll be sooo glad to get off the old server, though. The last year there has been a royal pain in the ass what with all the downtime and DDoS and comment spammers and other assorted crap I've been dealing with. I think back and I've been fighting these jerks online for years and years. When I think of all the time spent fighting them off, I begin to wonder if it's even worth the effort of having a site online... sometimes I don't think so... other times I get mad and won't let them ruin it for me. Back and forth like that.
I did finally get all my poems, most of my fiction, and various other things all under one roof. All of that stuff is in a blog called Dirty Little Secrets (linked from my LJ). Took me longer to find a name I liked than it did to fill it with my content. LOL Currently figuring out a way to build a table of contents for each "collection" there. It should be possible to build one that is dynamic and will update itself with each new entry. Still figuring out the proper tags and tag order to do that, though. Fun in geekland.
