Chapter 11, yay

I'm writing it now and I just felt the urge to let this be noted:

Comic relief. I think this may be the first (second?) time I've written it. I dunno. Either way, thank you Sirius.

I think this is what happens when I don't know what I'm doing. I understand Sirius, but...I don't. I am trying to use him to flesh James out, to start building up the relationships between Lily and the other Marauders. I pretty much know what I'm going to write. But writing it is hard. Nailing that brotherly male-friendship dynamic, I think, is right on the fringe of my abilities. Maybe a little bit beyond them. Sigh.

This chapter is a little harder in general than I'd expected it to be. I outlined it thinking, "Oh, eh, it's just going to be some soppy character-driven stuff, playing one character against the next to set up the crazy off-the-wall shit that's going to happen starting in Chapter 12, easy." But no. Not really. I think I'm just having a case of the blahs with this one because the whole thing, with the exception of the first scene, really just feels to me like a collection of extended vignettes. I'm 6,500 words in and so far all I've done is lay the foundation for the real meat of the chapter - and I suspect I'm going to click past the finish line with over 9,000. Possibly even 10,000.

Bit long for my taste. But whatever. Back to the drawing board - if I'm quick, then I might be into the exciting parts by the end of the weekend.

...Although that 7-page literature review on laboratory automation that I'm supposed to write is also due, like, tomorrow. (And I haven't started it, because honestly I am so burned out that the only science I give a flying crap about now is the science I do at my bench, on my own time.)

Yeah. I'm probably going to be spending a lot of time typing tomorrow. And I have to drive the Mr. to the airport at 5:30AM. *Scratches head* Bugger.
