So after a few weeks of cranking,
Chapter 10: Armaments of Inertia is up. :)
It's kind of a crazy chapter. I'm looking at it now and going, Wow, I can't believe I'm finally done with the beginning of this story. It's like some kind of insane accomplishment.
I'm hoping - hoping - to stay on maybe a 4 - 6 week update schedule from hereon out. I'm not terribly optimistic about that because I'm pretty much busy all the time, but I find that writing maybe one or two nights a week helps keep me sane and creative. A typical chapter is maybe 7 - 8 scenes, averaging about 1000 words apiece - so if I keep up my current habits and write one scene per sitting and have five or six sittings per month, I can feasibly crank out maybe 9 or 10 chapters per year. That's not as quick as I'd like (I want to just get this fic written), but it's better than six months and no update.
So I'm going to try. Reeeeeaaallly not sure if I'll be able to stick to that, especially once I get my new research materials and start picking up the pace with experiments again - but the 4 - 6 week cycle would be consistent and really not too shabby. I'd like to develop some measure of skill with being consistent, anyway. So much of my work gets done kind of by the seat of my pants, with endless deadlines and experiments gone wrong and unexpected things generally exploding in my face. Maintaining a creative rhythm would be something worth trying for.
