The only idea up there I kind of hate is the one where we would start policing for actual criminal blogs. Vigilantism leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I'd be concerned that we'd just be embarking on our very own witch hunt. I can say for certain that I wouldn't participate if that was one of the seven items.

Otherwise, yay! :D

I don't know if we need to do something as "proactive" as policing blogs myself. But we definitely need to do something which clearly indicates that we have no association with pedophile groups, do not approve of them, do not support them, etc. Whether it's disclaimers on the group, or something else -- a Not!Press Release, statements from people about their feelings about it, I don't know. Maybe it's best not to get too into it, but I think we really need to communicate to LJ that it's not what we're about. Maybe even any charity fundraising we do can be potentially part of that (if we donate to organization like RAINN for example). I just know that I can't participate in anything which doesn't ensure that the pedophile community can't try to hijack the platform and use it for their own ends.

(God, someone stop me. I keep repeating the same stuff over and over again, I know it's probably annoying, but I just feel so strongly about this.)

I don't have a problem with disclaimers or anything like that, but I just don't think it is our place as users to police other users. I don't other users trolling through my journal looking for illegal activity to report me for (file sharing, anyone?), and I don't want any part of doing that to other users. There are people whose job it is to do these things, and I think it's inappropriate for us to take that into our own hands. I think it's actually kind of... icky. And a slippery slope-ish.

That said, if this particular agenda is extremely important to the comm, I'll be happy to just go on my way. :) Seriously. That is not a sarcastic remark.

I think that sounds pretty sensible to me. :)

Yeah, I think I'm not really comfortable here. Best of luck! :)

What?! I was saying I though your suggestions were sensible ... disclaimers but no trolling ...

I'm so confused. :(

Oh! I'm sorry, I thought you were responding to the last bit. And I didn't take it badly (I was thinking that was probably for the best), so it didn't occur to me that you meant otherwise. :) I still think it might be so. I think I'll probably wait and see what the seven steps end up being before I decide to join in.

I wasn't upset, just so you know. Even when I thought you were suggesting I leave. :)

Oh no! XD No, I definitely was not.

I am really passionate about this, because I don't want fandom to be associated with these people, but I do think reporting/investigating is probably indeed a slippery slope. I guess I'm just a little sensitive today because I've been called a hypocrite, etc., so often. And have forced myself to read creepy stuff like childlovelives so that I knew exactly what we were dealing with (they claimed they were "recovering" pedophiles, but yeah. So not.)

In any case, whatever you end up deciding ... I think that everyone is going to try to compromise and please as many people as possible.
