You know, I could've hung out with the cool kids tonight, but NOPE I wanted to watch some new anime. Since I'm still up, I'll share my thoughts on the bad guy army from Aoi Sekai no Chuushin De.
The show is about the kingdom of Segua struggling against the evil forces of Nintendo Ninteldo. The character redesigns are about as subtle as the name changes. Big red up top is the cruel and divinely-inspired Emperor Marcus. With his mighty hammer and dinosaur steed, he is able to lay waste to British dreadnoughts. Do note that the setting is otherwise Medieval.
Link is now a samurai with sadistic overtones named Zelig. There was some trouble identifying who the guy was, but he threw bombs like Link and is able to shoot lasers out of his sword, so the small fandom figured him as such. Later on in the manga he teams up with...
A Fire Emblem girl! One of my favorite minor characters, too! Here, she's Fare of Ninteldo's air force. I'm going to claim her as my favorite Ninteldo operative right now because Fire Emblem is one of my biggest fandoms. The new game is coming out in a few days so I'm getting excited by anything that references it! Too bad about the lack of speaking parts for her, but as she's in the opening I expect Fare to be a big player.
Edrick from the Dragon Quest games is now some other guy. His outfit is almost the same as the player character's from DQIII and he's even wearing a metal slime earring! From what I can tell, the manga places him as the most powerful fighter in Ninteldo. Emperor Marcus lets him stay independent just because.
Ninteldo is supposed to harbor popular Nintendo characters so I was surprised to see female!Akuma from Street Fighter make an appearance. SFII was for the Super Nintendo, but I don't think Akuma was in that one. No speaking parts for this lady, but I'm liking her just for the muscle tone. Don't see too many muscled girls in anime land.
Oh, the hero of the show is Sonic. I'm not really a Sega supporter...
