Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris

I finished Dead in the Family. Thoughts are below.

Pros:

I still love Sookie. I mean, yeah, she could very easily be labeled a Mary Sue, but I don't give a damn. I like that even though she's essentially a sweet person, she will cut a bitch. She wants to get rid of those people who are in her way, those who are making her life miserable. I also like that even though she's considers what being turned would be like, she still clings to her humanity.

I'm glad they explained why Eric didn't save Sookie from those fairies in the last book, even though it was kind of ridiculous.

We got to see Eric's maker. I wasn't IN LOVE with him, but he was okay for the most part. I was far more interested in Alexei who was off his fucking rocker, but for totally understandable reasons.

Jason's growing up!

Mixed:

On the one hand, I liked that Sookie wasn't completely healed from her attack in the last book. She's full of scars inside and out. She's uncomfortable during sex which I think is perfectly reasonable given what happened to her. It's certainly made her more cautious with people. However a part of me felt that they brushed it aside way too quickly.

Cons:

No plot.

I am now horribly worried that they'll kill Eric off in the last book or that he and Sookie will break up just because Ocella said that Sookie won't be able to keep Eric. That scene gave me a major case of the SADFACE, okay? Some people seemed to think that this book had a Sookie/Sam vibe which I didn't get at all, but now I can't stop thinking about that. If it started going in that direction, I'd give these books up in a second. I absolutely HATE Sam.

Not enough Pam.

Oh god, the names of all the clans were just plain old stupid. I'm glad Sookie thought the same.

I really hate Bill at this point. Don't ask me why. I just hate that pale motherfucker. Sue me.

Why, oh, why did they have to include the adorably precocious little kid who can read your mind. I hated that little bastard.

Overall, not my favorite book. Like I said, it had absolutely no plot. I expected something big to happen or someone important to die, but there was absolutely nothing. Blah. Oh well, at least Sookie wasn't horribly tortured.
