Okay, so the most interesting part about the
Diana Gabaldon freak-out over fanfiction is the fact that some people actually commented on her blog saying that they'd never even heard about fanfiction before. Jesus, really?! Where the hell have you been living these past few years? My 58 year old mother, who doesn't even know what The X-Files is, knows about fanfiction. Yeah, TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION.
There is one part where Gabaldon writes about how she unwillingly read fanfiction about her characters...okay, no one can make you read fanfiction without possibly holding a gun to your head and making you dictate each page word by word. So it's not like she was surfing the web AND WAS SUDDENLY SMACKED IN THE FACE BY A SENTENCE FULL OF PENISES.
As for the post? It has this condescending tone that sets my teeth on edge. There's no need to be rude to people who clearly like your characters enough to write fanfiction for them.
