Okay, so Woman Who Still Wants to Get Married is SOOOOO my favorite drama of the recent years. Oh you guys, it kills me! I don't know if it would be to everyone's tastes though. It's not very intense. There aren't evil parents and the misunderstandings don't take forever to be cleared up. (HUZZAH!) I hesitate to call it slice of life because I don't think it's like that either. It does have a very easy going vibe to it which I adore. And also, the leads are amazing. Kim Bum...here's the thing. I've always found Kim Bum cute, but cute in a little brother whom I'd like to smoosh type of way. Yes, I think he's older than I am, but whatever. I'd heard that he was a great actor in East of Eden, but before this I'd only seen him in BOF and...yeah. You could put Meryl Streep in BOF and it would still be an awkward situation.
But he's so great in this. Oh his eyes! He's got such great, expressive eyes! I die! He also seems to have bulked up a little, which I'm grateful since I'm not a fan of the delicate orchid look some boys have going on.
And his OTP is so awesome. She's such a no bullshit type of girl. There's this part where one of her coworkers causes her interview with the woman a government official had assaulted to be canceled in favor for the coworker's interview with the official. Basically, the coworker and her boss used her interview as bait to get the official to appear for an interview. And here's the thing I love. She's so grown up about the whole thing. She knows she can't quit because doing so would only put her in a situation where she's jobless. She does however slip into the coworker's dressing room as he's prepping for his interview with the official. They basically have this showoff where he's very condescending and she's just there with this angry yet strangely calm look on her face. And then she hands him a bag of Korean candy called yeot and tells him to eat it before the interview. And since I know shit about Korea, I thought the obvious: laxatives in the candy. However I was later informed that in Korean, telling someone to "Eat yeot" is slang for "Fuck you.". #______# AND FROM THEN ON I'VE BASICALLY WANTED HER CHARACTER TO BE MADE INTO AN ACTION FIGURE.
I'll write about her chemistry with Kim Bum another day because frankly I'm dead tired and if I start on that, I'll be writing all night.
One last thing I would like to mention is that I freaking love the soundtrack to this drama. I'm not a big fan of Korean music. No, let me put that in another way. You know those songs so popular in Kdramas?. You know, the sweeping, sorrowful song with the singer (usually male) singing about something which I can't understand but I know is sorrowful and agonizing by the way he keeps crooning "Saranghe~~~~yo!!!!!!!!!!" in a voice so mournful it sounds as if he's a split second away from bursting into sobs? Yeah, I hate those types of songs. I always feel like they're so self-indulgently weepy. Like, me two days into my period where I'm basically flailing around the house whining that I'm a loser and that the world is so cruel and unfair and wah! wah! wah! Cry moar. Yeah, that's what I think of when I hear those songs.
But this OST is excellent. Or at least I think so. I already mentioned the Sade in a previous post which totally caught me off guard. There's also these two ballads, both of which I'm kind of obsessed with. I hope somebody starts watching this since it's getting kind of miserable to be so full of glee over something and not be able to gush about it with someone.
glee,
