Gu Family Book--Some spoilers up to episode 11

I'm loving this drama but I was browsing tumblr after the latest episode and I'm just cackling at how some people are already claiming Chung Jo to be evil after the flashback showed that when she was a little kid she threw away the healing balm Yeo Wool asked her to give to Kang Chi (I'm assuming this was because he saved her from that dog). I am legitimately cackling. Oh tumblr, you so crazy. Not to say that it wasn't a dick move on CJ's part, but last time I checked little kids were still shitty little bastards. I mean if the worst thing CJ ever did was throw a jealous fit when she was, what, ten?--and throw something meant for someone else in the river, she's pretty much an angel. I mean when I was eight, I remember once just purposely dropping a pile of dishes because I called my mom and she didn't hear me. Yes, kids are assholes. SHOCKER.

Maybe I'm a little defensive about CJ because so far, I genuinely feel for her. I have ever since her the day of her arranged marriage when she was in her room listening to her family and the servants joyously greet her future husband and you just see her pressing her hands against her ears to block out the sound. That honestly broke my heart a little. She's probably the one who's had it worst in this series so far. I mean, okay, her brother was tortured so maybe they're tied for first place, but her parents both died and the person who's responsible for her death basically owns her now and the very real possibility of being continuously raped by him  is just looming closer and closer.

But my favorite character in this this is probably a draw between YW and Kang Chi. Probably YW more than KC just because she's obviously the smartest one in the whole group. I love how when the former inn servant shows up with the info about CJ, and KC just mindlessly goes to rush off, she's immediately like, "Slow your roll. It's obviously a trap." and then just comes up with this awesome plan to save CJ (well, awesome for a drama. In real life, I'm about 100% sure at least one of those body doubles would have gotten a sword through their gut).

I do find it really interesting that YW is probably the least naive/sheltered one in the group. For all that KC felt that he was never really a part of his adopted family, he still grew up in conditions that were a billion times better than those of a peasant. And CJ and her brother are so painfully naive. I just cringed when Tae Seo agreed to betray KC in exchange for the bad guys letting CJ live, because it was obviously a lie on the bad guys' part. Of course they're gonna get what they want from you and then kill you and probably your sister too. Why would they not? They're bad guys for a reason.

I'm also kind of sad for YW's bodyguard. Someone should probably tell him not to be so stoic all the time. The silent best friend never gets the girl/boy. If this were another drama I'd die shipping him and YW but alas, I can't. YW/KC are as cute as puppies and if one of them dies at the end I'm gonna punch a hole in the wall.

feeeeeeelings, dramas
