okay, I acknowledge this is basically tl;dr for everyone. I'm not even sorry.

As much as I've fallen in love with Teen Wolf, the fandom completely baffles me. It's not that 99.999% of the fic and discussion surrounding it involve slash. Because I can understand slash. Not really my thing (okay, not my thing like at all) , but I can completely understand it. So it's not that.
What I can't understand is how in the world Stiles/Derek became the flagship of this fandom. I mean if anything I would have thought Scott/Stiles would be the ship since they're best friends. Or maybe Derek/Scott since they have the whole alpha/beta thing going on. But then, I guess Stiles is far more interesting than Scott (even though I love that dorky potato head) and let's be real. Derek was absolutely going to be in some sort of popular slash pairing because Jesus Christ, have you seen him? Sonnets could (and probably have) been written about how amazing his freaking chest looked in that one episode where he was doing the pull-ups because OH MY GOD.
So I guess I just answered my own question.
It does get really annoying though. I mean, hey, I'd like to read some fic too. But it's like, you log into Ao3 and it's basically:
Slash! Slash! How about a side of slash with your order of slash! AU slash!
But whatever. It's my own fault. I got into this show knowing full well that the slash made up most of the fic. And hey, I have been able to find like THREE really good het fics. That's three more than I thought existed. I've actually also read a couple of slash fics just due to sheer desperation. Some were pretty good, but the main problem I have with a lot of these fics is that the authors are of the opinion that these two characters have been secretly pining for each other from the moment they met. Which, no, I'm so not there with you.
I could see it maybe happening under the right circumstances (and even then, I'm still kind of unconvinced), but I just can't buy that these two characters feel anything more towards each other right now other than maybe some very very light friendship. And even that's stretching it. I think it's more like wary acceptance that they have to be in each other's lives. That's just my opinion. It doesn't mean it's right. It just means that I can maybe enjoy like a handful of fics.
Honestly, I'm just glad no one's latched onto Derek/Kate [Spoiler for season 1] because that fucking bitch. Not only did she completely mess this guy up for life, but she emotionally manipulated a kid AND THEN MURDERED ALMOST HIS ENTIRE FAMILY. Oh god, the rage I felt when she was torturing him and taunting him. He was like 15-16 once and fell so hard for this girl who was older, and she completely used him like, not even like a toy because that would be too generous, and then tore his life apart and all these years later she's still laughing about it. I wanted to dive through the computer screen and strangle her.
And I get that Derek is kind of a dick and that he can be manipulative too (oh god, the scene with Erica was kind of hot until you realize how utterly fucked up it is) but just the fact that he hasn't gone absolutely mental with guilt is commendable. Okay, maybe he's a little crazy considering that he lived in the burned out husk of a house, where his family died, all through season 1. Christ.
And what is it with the Allison hate. I LOVE Allison. I hope she comes into her own in season three and is able to analyze what she wants her part to be in this warewolf clusterfuck because for the last two seasons she's been completely used by her own family members. Lydia is perfection and I hope she has a bigger part next season and we finally find out [Spoiler (click to open)] why she's immune to everything.
