Merlin 3x10

 SO. Merlin.

Considering the fact that I came into this episode dreading that they would do a complete reset (aka biggest fuckup in the history of ever) it pretty much turned out to be the best case scenario. Let's get the bad parts out of the way first. Or at least, the bad parts I caught.

1-The most glaring part was that neither Arthur nor Gwen are questioning just who the fuck the old wizard was. Obviously they know they aren't under a spell, so why aren't they wondering why some anonymous wizard (oh wait, I mean ~*~*~DRAGOON, THE GREAT~*~*~*~ ) is taking the fall for Gwen. I mean Arthur kind of had a WTF look on his face when Merlin with a Beard said that he'd put Gwen under an enchantment. Obviously he wasn't going to say in front of his father that the wizard was lying because, yeah, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but afterwards he didn't even question it? Really?

2-Morgana. Morgana Morgana Morgana. Again, I still can't believe the transition from season 1-2 Morgana to this version. I really don't. Also, I don't get  why it wouldn't have been better for her if Gwen and Arthur ran away and eloped. I guess she was scared that one day Arthur would try and take back the throne, but please. She could have pulled some voodoo, allowing them to escape, then get Uther to pass the crown onto her and then kill Arthur and Gwen while they frolicked somewhere in the woods. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here, but it just seems like Arthur would be a lot easier to kill if he were outside of the protection of the castle.

3. Um, why isn't Arthur suspicious of Morgana? He knows that only she and Merlin know about he and Gwen. Shouldn't he have at least considered the possibility of Morgana being the one who set them up to be found. Especially since she was the one who appeared with Uther? I mean, he doesn't have to accuse her of anything, but shouldn't he at least suspect something is up?

4-This one isn't really a thing that bothered me, but I know some other people were pissed off that Gwen didn't say that she loved Arthur in this episode. Arthur did it about four times I think. He was on the brink of getting an I heart Gwen tattoo, basically. The thing is, I think it's totally in character for Gwen. Not only do I think that she's someone who would keep her feelings to herself, but I think that however much she may love Arthur, she still very aware of the fact that he's the freaking prince and that she's a serving girl. Also, I'm pretty sure she had other things on her mind when she was being dragged away by the guards. Things like, OH CRAP GONNA BURN ON THE PYRE. And I'm pretty sure the writers are gonna save the I Love You for the last eps.

Things I Liked

1-Gwen telling Uther off. OH MAN, I squeed. Not gonna lie. I've been waiting for Gwen to express her anger at Uther for a long time and even if she only defended her father's innocence and told Uther that someone like him (Uther) could never understand why Arthur loved her. It was brilliant and I wanted to wave a pom pom at that scene. I mean, I love Anthony Stewart Head, but uther's a bastard and I watch each episode with the hope that someone will punch him.

2.Merlin also laid into Uther and I just have to say, Colin Morgan really sold that scene. You could just feel the anger and pain in his voice getting stronger and stronger. Chills, guys. I got freaking chills.

3.Okay, this episode was basically just one big Arthur/Gwen shipper lovefest. So many wonderful scenes. Morgana's vision of Gwen's coronation. When Gwen's filling Arthur's goblet with water and their hands touch and how Arthur just can't stop smiling to himself like a total dork. Their picnic where they totally made out like horny teens. Arthur telling his father that he loved Gwen and the look on his face like he couldn't believe that it had finally come out. Gwen getting dragged away and Arthur yelling that he'd always love her even as the guards dragged him away. The scene at the end where he waves off the possibility that they could both just be under a love spell. Oh my heart.

4. I don't know how many other people enjoyed this part but when Arthur and Gwen got found out and Uther is just laughing about it because he thinks it's just a case of his son fooling around with a servant girl? Totally cracked me up. It played out exactly as I knew it would but it was even better because Uther was like, "Lol, son, I too know the irresistable pull of serving girl boobs. Been there, motorboated that."

5. Arthur preening and Merlin and Gwen laughing at him behind his back. That was just too cute.

6. Merlin with a Beard was fucking hilarious. That voice. THAT VOICE.

So all in all, a good episode. Honestly, I'm just glad there wasn't a reset at the end. i hate those with a burning passion.
