I love how this chapter proceeds with the post-spell clean up. Angel and Buffy have been struggling for months in their non-relationship, and now that it's crystal clear that they're over, Angel leaving town makes sense. It's still a painful parting, but you've left me more sympathetic toward Angel than I was in canon. Angel and Buffy parting is amicable here, and there's no illusion that they have a future together. The spell has wrested a lot of choice out of Buffy's hands, but it has also pushed her and Angel forward, giving them both a chance to start over.

Spike's defensiveness and lack of confidence was running rampant. He knows exactly what Buffy's visit is all about, so when she surprises him with a different decision altogether it's an unexpected gift. She wants their relationship to start fresh, too, and the warmth and tentative reaching out is lovely to read. Spike immediately springing back to cocky lech mode was delightfully in character and gave me a big grin.
