"Hey guys." Kaylee says quietly as she steps into the mess.
Jayne glances up at Kaylee and nods.
River sets her bowl down on the coffee table in front of them and curls her legs under herself as she leans against Jayne's side. "Hello, Kaylee."
Kaylee wrings her hands and sits down on the edge of the rounded couch.
Jayne kisses River's forehead and then stands up, grabbing their dirty dishes as he does. "I'm gonna go wash these, shui nu shen."
"Okay." River agrees, knowing what he's doing. "Thank you."
"Anytime." Jayne walks over to the sink and fills it with soap and water. He gives the girls their privacy while at the same time, watches over his girl.
"I'm sorry." Kaylee apologizes. "I didn't even give you two a chance, just started makin' judgments when anyone can see how much he loves you. And how much you love him."
"It's okay, Kaylee." River moves around, bending her knees and wrapping her arms around them, missing Jayne's warmth. It's so cold here, so different from their island. "You judged me how you knew me before."
"But I shoulda let you explain." Kaylee says. "I shoulda realized you might'va changed but I didn't…."
"You're afraid that if you voice an opposing viewpoint to Simon's, he will no longer want to be with you." River tilts her head to study Kaylee. "Don't worry though, Simon is in love with you and was planning on marrying you once the search was done."
"He is?" Kaylee whispers, her eyes filled with shock.
River nods. "Congratulations and welcome to the family."
Kaylee throws her arms around River, not noticing the genius's discomfort.
"That's nuf, little Kaylee." Jayne places a hand on the mechanic's shoulder and pulls her away.
Kaylee looks up at Jayne, shocked by his actions, and then looks at River and understands why. The genius's face is white, her eyes wide, and her head bent slightly so that her hair partially covers her face. It's like looking at the River from before.
"Shui nu shen, you okay?" Jayne sits down beside River and scoops her into his arms.
"No." River whimpers, burying her face in Jayne's neck, trying desperately to climb inside him. "Too close, much too close. Coverings prick and hurt, rubbing against mine…"
"Shhh." Jayne soothes, rubbing his face against her neck while his hands rub up and down her back. "It were just little Kaylee, she didn't mean no harm."
River clenches and unclenches her hands, trying to pull back her control. It was slipping away, fading under the mass of emotions and thoughts until her Jayne returned and blocked it all away. She knows it's not healthy to be so dependant on another person but also knows that who she is, is wrapped up completely in him.
"River?"
Jayne's arms tighten slightly around River but he doesn't pull his face away. "Doc, you better, for your own gorram safety, not have a ruttin' needle in your hand."
"He's clean." River whispers. "Soul bared out to offer a truce."
"What kinda truce, shui nu shen?" Jayne kisses her shoulder and pulls back to look into her face.
"He still does not completely understand us but he doesn't want to lose me." River cups Jayne's cheek, rubbing her thumb back and forth over his goatee. "He is willing to let us be as long as you don't take me away."
"And the cap'n?" Jayne turns his head to nip her thumb, a broad smile covering his face when she giggles.
"He too does not fully understand but does not wish for the mutiny that will follow if he continues to fight us." River traces her fingers over his face, paying close attention to his eyes. "He wishes for you to take back your old public relations job."
"Well, if that ain't a bit disconcertin'." Mal comments as he watches the couple carefully. "Little witch, you always been able to do that?"
River nods. "The words didn't like my mouth so they all rushed to get out together and only chaos was heard. But my Jayne makes the words stand in line and exit in a orderly fashion."
"I do, do I?" Jayne laughs, his teeth catching her finger as she traces over his lips.
"Yes." River pulls his face to hers until their noses touch. "They like your kisses and wish to escape to your mouth. I believe they are confused though as our mouths are not always attached."
Jayne pecks her lightly on the lips. "We could change that."
River pulls his mouth more firmly to hers, her tongue pushing against the closed seam of his. "I would like that." She says into his mouth, giggling as the words echo between them.
Jayne laughs, pulling his mouth away to kiss her forehead. "You're bout the cutest thing in the verse, you know that?"
"Yes." River smiles up at him.
"Yeah, guess you do." Jayne agrees. "Don't think there's a thing you don't know."
"Jayne, can I talk to you?" Simon asks politely.
Jayne sighs and looks up at the doctor. "Shui nu shen, why don't you and Kaylee go start packin' your stuff and I'll be down there in a few minutes."
"Okay." River kisses Jayne lightly on the lips and then climbs off his lap. She follows Kaylee out of the mess though she's sure to keep her body from touching anyone else's.
"She could have stayed." Simon says. "It does concern her."
"I spent last night tryin' to calm her down, get her to stop sobbin' and ended up havin' to rock her to sleep because of you." Jayne leans back against the couch and crosses his arms over his chest, glaring at the two men in front of him. "You really think I'm gonna let you hurt her anymore than you done did?"
"I didn't mean to." Simon whispers.
"Don't give a gorram what you meant to do." Jayne says. "Only care bout what you did do and that's hurt her bad. She's always looked up to you, always thought you'd support and love her no matter what but hell, guess she was wrong bout that."
"She told you that?" Simon asks.
"She's told me everything." Jayne replies. "Every gorram thing from gettin' kicked outa school cause she was too smart to watchin' you go on your first date to havin' a gorram needle shoved through her forehead. Ain't a thing that's happened to her that I don't know bout. What, you think all we did was have sex?"
"Yes." Simon replies honestly.
"She loves to talk, doc, don't matter bout what and I love listenin' to her." Jayne says. "Don't right matter what it's about."
"If something was wrong with her, physically wrong with her, you would tell me, right?" Simon asks.
"I'd haul your ass to the infirmary no matter what you was doin' if'n I thought she was in the least amount of pain." Jayne replies, being brutally honest. "You just don't get it, do you? She's the most important thing in my life, end of story. What she needs, she gets."
"And you're willing to haul her around the verse just so you can be together?" Mal questions.
"I'm willin' to take her home with me and work in the mines if that's what it takes." Jayne replies. "Ain't a thing I won't do."
"You don’t gotta make that kinda sacrifice." Mal says. "Your jobs yours if you want it."
"I know." Jayne stands up. "My girl just done told me that."
"Then why is she packin' her stuff?" Mal asks.
"Cuz she's movin' into my bunk." Jayne answers without hesitation. "Anybody gotta problem with that?"
Simon has to bite his lip but he doesn't say anything. Inara was right, when he watches them together, ignoring the fact that she's his sister, he can see how much Jayne adores her, it's written in his every action, but the brother part of him still can't help seeing her as the fourteen year old she was. But he doesn't want to lose her and he knows that's what will happen if he keeps trying to push her away from Jayne.

"Mmm." Jayne murmurs, his hand winding in River's long locks. "You're supposed to be sleepin', shui nu shen."
"Not sleepy." River kisses her away across his chest to find his other nipple and worries the hard bud with her teeth.
Jayne groans, his hands fisting in her hair. "You horny, shui nu shen?"
"Yes." River kisses her way up his chest to his chin, nibbling on the hair roughened skin before traveling to his mouth. "I had a dream about you."
"What was I doin'?" Jayne slides a hand down her bare back to kneed her ass.
"Me." River tugs on his bottom lip. "Won't you make my dream come true?"
Jayne tugs her up further until her tits are right above his mouth. He catches one of the hard nubs with his teeth while one hand cups the other one.
River mewls, her hands clenching against his shoulders. "Jayne, no playing."
"But you taste so gorram good." Jayne slips a finger between her folds and wets the digit before bringing it up to taste. "Damn good."
River moans, her mouth bending down to lap at his. She raises her body high enough so that his cock rubs against her folds and then slides a hand down to separate them. Then she slowly lowers herself on him, moaning as he fills her up. "Jayne?"
"Yeah, shui nu shen?" Jayne grunts, his hands grasping her hips tightly.
"Don't leave me." River whispers.
Jayne flips them over and holds himself over her by his elbows. "I ain't goin' nowhere and if I do, you'll be right beside me."
"Promise?" River wraps her legs around his hips and pulls him completely inside her.
"Promise." Jayne repeats.
The smile that follows is so bright that Jayne can't do anything but smile back. He don't know how she's done it but somehow, this little slip of a girl has turned him weak. For the last fifteen years, he's kept himself from formin' any ties to anything. He's always been ready to move on if the money was good enough and do so without a seconds thought.
That's all changed now and all because of the girl under him. He knows the next time a situation presents itself, his decision won't be made on money but instead on what's best for his girl. And as much as that weakness scares the go'se outa him, he loves her too much to care.
