From mattmatt: List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

OK, OK, seven songs.

This list is not so much particular songs, as it is me picking the most meaningful songs off my favourite albums at the moment. A song might speak to me about a particular event going on in my life - or I might really, really adore a particular instrument’s solo in it - or the whole song might just fill me with joy and make me want to dance.

NOTE: There were a couple of other songs I wanted to put in here, but I have no idea who they are by or what they are called. Soooo… here we go.

Into Temptation
Crowded House

I’ve been playing their ‘Best Of’ CD for a while now and learning all the words. I picked ‘Into Temptation’ for a couple of reasons… The lyrics make me think of two particular people, and the way I think about them. Also, it has a magical guitar bridge. Um, I think that part of the song is called a bridge…Hmmm, sounds a bit like an ice bridge *looks in mattmatt’s direction*. Gee, it’s been a while since piano lessons!

In general, I like singing along to Crowded House, because their songs tend to be pitched in my vocal range (I’m soprano-ish), and they’re sooooooo very familiar, even when I don’t know the words.

Joker and the Thief
Wolfmother

I love this whole album, because I saw Wolfmother at Homebake and the Big Day Out over summer, and listening to this music just makes me think of summertime (which is clearly the best time of year by far). I chose this song because it’s just my favourite (I voted for it in the Hottest 100, too).

Take It In
The Waifs

This is from a live double album they released last year. Every song of theirs is a wondrous mix of guitar, harmonica and beautiful harmonies, but I’ve picked this one because these lyrics mean a lot to me:

Take it in
Take it all in
Now is a time that will not come again
Take it in
Take it all in
This is the day and it’s here for the living

Normally I wouldn’t put lyrics in my LJ - I don’t think they make for a very interesting entry - but these lyrics explain it better than I ever could.

The Car Song
The Cat Empire

I adore the Cat Empire, and this is off their second album (Two Shoes). I adore the brass in all of their songs, the rhythms, but this song is dear to me because for me it’s my friend Cass’s song. Darling Cass is my best friend from highschool - we’ve known each other since we were 12. This is her song because it’s about how this bloke had all this potential when he was at school, and everyone told him he would be a lawyer, but all he wants to do is play basketball and write music and maybe learn to drive one day… and it’s just the story of high school: people telling you that you have so much potential to have this great career (which is really bloody awful) and should do these supposedly wonderful things (which mean nothing), when in the end all you want to do is have fun (which, to me, is the most important thing, even if I am a public servant).

Sly
The Cat Empire

Another rollicking tune I love to dance to (and plan to salsa dance to some day), but I am going to be honest: I really love it because it makes me feel beautiful. About a third of The Cat Empire’s songs are about how awesome they think women are, and I am totally ok with that.

Country Girl
Primal Scream

This is off Primal Scream’s latest album, which I haven’t actually listened to. This is a bit of a boppy one - it’s not like their usual stuff - but I have to admit I’m into the lyrics, too - the ‘country girl’ bit. I identify more as being from the country these days - mainly because when you are from ‘the coast’, people from ‘the city’ tend to lump you in with those from ‘the country’. It’s a stereotype I’m willing to be part of (being sensible and down-to-earth being the positive bits)… OK, OK, I’ll admit it: it’s a stereotype I fit.

One Crowded Hour
Augie March

Yep, I’ve jumped on the Augie March bandwagon. For months I was walking around muttering ‘Pfffffft, Augie March. He’s not anything special. Who cares?’. Then, last week I realised that a song I absolutely adored and had stuck in my head for two days straight… was by Augie March. This is that song. It also makes me think of a couple of people I know, and it doesn’t hurt that the music is beautifully layered.
