Last night, the first meeting of the newly-resurrected Asheville Ballroom Dance Club took place. Dylan and I had set up a booth at the beginning of the semester for the student organization fair, and we had received a LOT of interest -- over 170 names and email addresses in all. We were one of the most popular clubs there.
However, due to the busy lives of the instructors, we could not collaborate with them to set up a definite time and date for the meetings. This left a lot of people impatient (strangers would approach me on the quad and demand to know when the meetings would start), and we feared interest was waning. An hour before the meeting found us in the Highsmith lobby specuating downheartedly about attendance. We wondered what we'd do if only six people showed up. Be very sad, that's what.
However, come 9:00 the HFC dance studio was filled with people. I would wager over 50 (I am no good at estimates, but the entire place was full to capacity). It was astounding. I experienced that rush of happiness that comes when something you feared would fail inexcplicably and suddenly succeeds beyond your most daring expectations. I gave this short, awkward speech welcoming everyone (I had to talk really loud -- ouch), and then the lesson began. Kids dancing all over the place. Kem (instructor) kept everyone laughing, and every person in there seemed to be having fun.
Anyway, the events of last night canceled out all the negative juju that has been floating around me for the past two days. Let's hope it stays this good.
That is all for now.
