Cheated!
I went by to pick up my check at Black Bear Coffee yesterday. I walked halfway to the bank before I realized I had been seriously ripped off. The check amount was for about $80, or, for about 12 or so hours of work, or two six-hour shifts. This is wrong, as I worked there for five shifts, or about 30 hours.
So, I walked back to Black Bear and explained the situation to Beau, who at first looked at me like I was speaking in tongues but then looked appropriately apologetic as I went on. He seemed to think that the lady who did the calculations messed up and only paid me for two shifts. However, his lovely assistant Caroline (who runs the espresso machines) chimed in that, sure, I might have worked at the coffee house for five days, but my hours there certainly didn't add up to more than 12.
This, people, is bullshit. I worked five full six-hour shifts, right beside her. However, Beau seemed to want to take her side, so he said he would "check things out in payroll" and that I should "get back to him in a couple days." I believe he thinks he's humoring me.
Anyway, I am pissed. But, I'm going to to back there tomorrow and see if they've finally come to their senses and decided to pay me the $210 to which I am entitled.
I hope this is not something for which I'm going to have to bitch and fight. Because I hate doing that. However, if it's necessary, I'll be there with the claws out and the baseball bat in hand until I get my goddamned money.
