Shameless Promotion and Pics from the Trip

I'm not sure if any of you bothered to vote in the contest, but it doesn't really matter. Poets and Pornstars fucking dominated.

They won with around 51.something% of the votes. And thank god. I read the description of the band coming in second place (with 20 something %), and they described themselves as a SoCal Pop Punk band whose influences are Blink 182 and New Found Glory. I wanted to castrate them immediately, but I'm pretty sure they all have vaginas anyways. So yeah, they get to participate in a big event from pretty much the biggest rock station in the country. Kick ass.

This is them. They already look poised for superstardom. My cousin Thomas is all the way on the left. I haven't been able to see him in 8 years, but next summer I think there's gonna be a family reunion and I can kick it with them roadie style.

Right. Julia and I took that Amtrak train to Springfield Saturday morning. I thought the train left at 8:30am, but apparently it was leaving at 8:15am and we literally made it within one minute.

Requisite cute couple pic.

Hotel room. Wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't a shithole.

This is where the event was taking place. We arrived just in time for the start of the Audience Choice Documentaries, which were boring as fuck for the most part.

Afterwards we grabbed a bite to eat at Jimmie John's, which was one of the few places that was open. The city was barely alive, even on a Saturday. We went back to the festival and watch the Audience Choice Comedies, only two of which were really funny. We decided not to stay for the Feature film and just went back to the hotel to watch "An Evening with Kevin Smith", which is fucking hilarious. The un-hilarious part is that I got a fever and a cold and it sucked massive balls. Julia had to take a taxi to the nearest Walgreens (oh irony) to get some medicine. She came back with children's cough medicine for some reason, so I just took double what they prescribed. I forgot how awesomely non-disgustingly children's medicine tastes.

Next morning while Julia slept in I decided to walk over to the Capitol building and take some shots. Here's just one of the pictures as I'll spare you the pain of viewing the rest.

I thought this was hilarious. It's supposed to be a statue of MLK Jr., but it looks like something out of The Grudge 3.

I thought Springfield was deserted on Saturday. How wrong was I. Sunday is 100x worse. Except for maybe a few random cars driving, there is no one around. At all. It took us 7 tries to find a place that was actually open to find anything to eat. We settled on one cafe that wasn't closed.

Every time a train rode through town, we could here it pretty well from our hotel room. It wasn't obnoxiously loud, but still kinda annoying. The next time one passed by, I opened the window in the very back to discover the trains pass right behind us.

This is really the only pic we could get of my accepting the award. Lighting was kinda bad.

Since everything was dead in the city, we just decided to order Papa John's for dinner. It was fucking sweet.

Woke up at 5:40 to take the 6:30 train. Fun.

Pic of downtown from afar. I was so glad to be back in a city where I only need to walk like 20 feet to get what I need.

Shitty pic of the award I got.

That is all.
