Is anyone familiar with, or ever heard of, the movie
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Well, this obviously isn't the same situation seeing how I'm no Sidney Poitier, or black, but still...
So, imagine your girlfriend tells you you're invited to her house for a pre-Chinese New Year's dinner, and it's the next day.
Then, imagine your reaction when you find out that it's not going to be a big party, but a small, intimate dinner with only her immediate family, which includes her old-fashioned, traditional Chinese parents (read: strict).
Then imagine you find out that you've been the only non-family member invited to the dinner.
Then just imagine your surprise when you find out that you're the only non-family person to ever be invited to the traditional dinner.
...oye.
Yeah, I was pretty stressed today, seeing how I thought I had to prove myself to her parents. If I fucked up in any way then I could kiss the relationship goodbye. Jesus Christ, even the grandmother came by. But, everything was awesome, especially the food. The mother really likes me, and I have no idea how the father feels. I just know for sure that he doesn't not like me, so I guess that's pretty good.
We'll just have to see...
