The English 11H curriculum revolves around coming-of-age novels by American authors and the philosophy and poetry of American Transcendentalists. Our books introduce the reader to revolutionary ideas and literature dating from the 19th century to the present day. The novels cover a wide range of scenarios and time periods, but each story comes back to the character-driven plot revolving around the protagonist’s own internal journey of self-discovery. Despite the diverse book list available for this course, one critical flaw remains: not one of these American classics is either written by a woman or centered on a female as a main character
