Marvel Cinematic Universe

As I'm sure most of you have heard by now, Marvel has released the names of all its upcoming films through the first half of 2019. So we now know what to expect from Phase 3 in its entirety.

I'm... definitely a bit torn.

First of all, it looks like the rumors that the third Captain America film will focus on Civil War is true. There's also no way that it's going to have more than a passing resemblance to the comics version. I've heard some rumors that it's going to be focusing more on "who should super heroes answer to?" rather than "secret identities are important/the cause of all the world's problems!", which makes me think it's going to tie in to what we've been seeing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when it comes to the power vacuum left after S.H.I.E.L.D. was officially shut down.

Doctor Strange. I've heard the rumors about casting, but I also know that nothing's official yet. For the record? If they cast Benedict Cumberbatch and keep the extremely questionable aspects of Strange's comics background? It's going to take a lot to get me to give that movie a chance. One or the other, I could possibly deal with, but both would be a combination that would make me much too likely to want to punch things.

Considering how much I loved the first one, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 isn't really worrying me too much. There are a few things that I'd really like to see happen in it, of course, but we'll have to wait and see.

I can think of several things that could happen in the third Thor movie, considering its subtitle is "Ragnarok". Some of them potentially awesome, some of them... not so much. I guess that I'm cautiously optimistic for now?

Black Panther. It's about fucking time.

Captain Marvel. It's really about fucking time. But it doesn't even remotely make me want to forgive Marvel for taking ten years to get to the point where they have a film with a female lead. Nor does it make me want to forgive them for not giving us a Black Widow movie. Or for royally screwing over the awesomeness that is Janet van Dyne.

Inhumans. So, yeah, everyone's been calling that one for some time. There have been some hints to the Inhumans already, and I won't be at all surprised if they end up having some ties to the ongoing storyline on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It's been a common speculation since last season, and it does seem to fit.

As for the third Avengers film being split into two parts, I'm not even remotely surprised. And, I have to admit, I'm very curious to see what the MCU's take on the Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity War/Infinity Crusade/etc. story will be like.

So, yeah, overall? I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'm not exactly thrilled about a few things that Marvel has done.
