The State of Me

Dec 14, 2013 12:10

Let's see, what's going on in my life right now? It's quite a bit, so let's make this post in list format, shall we?

1. I'm doing my best to get as many hours in for my part-time job as possible today and tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. I don't know how much time I'll have later in the week, so I'd like to hit the minimum of five hours by Sunday just to be on the safe side.

2. Things are going to be pretty damn hectic at Unnamed Profit this week. Mondays are always busy as we try to play catch-up after the weekend. Tuesday, we're having a holiday breakfast part for the first few hours of the day; then we'll get a little bit of work done for a couple of hours before having some type of training from 1pm until 4pm, leaving us with a whole hour at the end of the day to try to return calls and play some more catch-up.

Wednesday is our company holiday party. We'll work from 9am until 11:30am or so, before closing the office and heading to a nearby restaurant for a lunch party. Thursday we'll be frantically trying to get absolutely everything finished. We'll be doing the same thing on Friday, but most of my coworkers seem to think that we won't be there for the whole day so we really need to get as much done as possible on Thursday. And then we're closed until January.

3. Um, let's see, I get paid on Thursday, so I'm planning on heading straight to a garage after I get off work that day to get two new tires put on my car. I really wish that I could just go to the place near my apartment for them, but their hours make it pretty much impossible. (They close at 6pm, and they're not open on weekends. If you have a 9-5 job and have to have your car to get to work, they're sadly not an option.)

4. The current plan is that, after work on Friday (whatever time that may be), I'm going to head back to my apartment, load everything that's not electronics into my car, and try to get to sleep as early as possible. Then, whenever I wake up, I'll load everything else into my car and start driving southward toward Tennessee. I much prefer to drive through the night (or, at least, to leave sometime very early in the morning, like in the 3-4am range), since traffic is better that way.

5. I keep starting and then scratching my Yuletide story, so I'm going to try to work on it as much as possible this week. I'd really like to have it finished by Wednesday, but that's not set in stone. As long as it's done by the deadline (it's next Sunday, right?), that's all that really matters.

6. I'd really like to fit at least one more viewing of The Hobbit in this week, but I just don't know if it's going to happen. If it doesn't, I'll try to slip off once I'm back in Tennessee to see it again there.

7. Since I have less than a week left until I head back to Tennessee, and work is providing food for us most of those days, I'm trying my best not to buy any groceries this week. That means I'm going to be eating mostly pasta and/or oatmeal, but I'd rather try to use up what I already have instead of buying more that will only go to waste. We'll see how that goes.

8. I'm hoping to clear out some more of my books and DVDs, so that I don't have as many things simply gathering dust as I get closer and closer to my eventual move. I'm not sure if I'll get it posted this weekend or not, but I'm going to try. It's less about money and more about clearing things out, but I have to admit that it would be nice if I had a bit more gas money for the trip back to Tennessee. I should have enough money for the trip, since I should be getting a paycheck from Unnamed Nonprofit on Thursday and from the part-time job on Friday, but it would be nice to have a bit extra just in case anything happens on the way there.

9. As those of you who follow me on Twitter saw, I had some Kohls Cash from where I bought some winter clothes a couple of weeks ago. I decided to put them toward some coffee and tea K-cups on Cyber Monday, since -- between the online sales going on and the Kohls Cash I had -- I'd be paying very little for the K-cups. One of them arrived in the mail yesterday, and it wasn't in the best of shape.

Kohls responded to my tweet within less than two minutes and offered me a refund to make up for it, so that worked out better than expected. I'd looked at their website to find out how to make a complaint, and it was difficult to actually find any information, hence the tweet. I've got to admit, social media makes it much easier to get in touch with companies when you're having an issue than their websites do sometimes.

10. Unexpected withdrawal from my checking account was unexpected. Dear company with whom I had an automatic debit set up with, I point blank told you two weeks ago to charge my credit card this month and not my debit card. Thank you so much for not listening. Really, thank you.

11. Why do I keep attracting attention from the skeeviest guys ever? Why? Just, why?

12. We're having a gift exchange at work on Tuesday, $10 maximum, and it looks like the (fairly awesome) gift I ordered online isn't going to arrive in time despite my ordering well in advance. I'm getting the sinking feeling that I'm going to have to try to improvise and come up with something else, preferably something I already own and don't mind giving away since I really don't want to have to go buy something. At least I'll get to keep what I ordered online for myself, whenever it finally arrives?
