I have a computer again!!! \o/
I managed to access all of my files thanks to the wonders of Linux that's bootable from a thumb drive, and I got all of them saved to one of my external hard drives just to be on the safe side. Then I tried basically everything I could think of to try and make my computer work again.
No dice. Nothing I could do could make Vista work again. So, you know, I was getting ready to say "fuck it", wipe everything, and just install Ubuntu, but before I did that I decided to pop in the Windows 7 reinstallation disk that came with my (also Dell) laptop. Just for the hell of it. And, to my utter relief, it worked! It didn't even ask me for my key code (although it wouldn't have mattered if it did, because I actually have it).
So, basically, I ended up better off than when I started. My computer now has Windows 7 instead of Vista, and it's running a lot faster since all of the files that I had saved to it were moved to a completely separate file and aren't technically installed. I've deleted all of the ones that I haven't used in ages, and reinstalled the ones that I do use regularly.
Which leads me to the other point of this post...
For vidding, I've been using Adobe Premiere for, well, a long time. I was using 6.5 for ages and ages before finally switching to CS3 after it got to the point where 6.5 just wouldn't work after I switched computers. And, now that I'm basically starting from scratch when it comes to what is/isn't installed, I thought that it might be time to considering changing to a different vidding program what with everything that's going on with Adobe right now.
As I mentioned, I currently have Windows 7 installed, so I'd prefer something that works with that OS. My vidding style is fairly basic. When it comes to special effects, the big things that I require a program be able to do are fairly basic ones like crossfades and the like. It would be nice to at least have the ability to have two concurrent audios and videos, but I don't have to have any more than that.
So, does anyone have any suggestions?
