I made it back to Maryland around midnight last night (which means I don't have to see my family again for a full year! \o/), after approximately five billion hours of driving. It started lightly snowing somewhere between Knoxville and Bristol (either right before I left I-40 or right after I started on I-81), and it didn't actually stop until I hit the Beltway (I-495). For those of you who aren't familiar with the area, we're talking about six hours. My poor black car looks almost white from all the salt it picked up from the roads.
So far, the only thing that I definitely forgot back in Tennessee was my digital camera, and if that ends up being the only thing then I'm counting it as a win. The parents are supposed to drop it in the mail for me tomorrow, so it should hopefully get here later this week.
I'm almost done unpacking, and when I'm done with that I'm going to have to run to the grocery store to pick up at least something edible. My breakfast and lunch today have consisted of potato chips, Lindt Lindor Truffles, and a couple of Coronas, and - while yummy - that is not a diet that I want to start the new year with.
Plus, you know, the relatives gave me a bunch of gift cards for the holidays because none of them actually know what to buy me. And, while most of them were for food-related places, I'm certain that I can figure out a way to spend money that's not actually mine at Barnes & Noble and Best Buy without too much difficulty. :-P
Oh, and I should probably get some champagne or sparkling wine or something for tomorrow night. That way, when some of my friends ask me yet again to come to their New Years' party, I can truthfully tell them that I already have plans. I just... won't mention that said plans involve me sitting in front of my television watching Lord of the Rings until 11:55, switching over to the ball drop for five minutes or so, and then going back to the movies.
