Life, the Universe, and Everything

It's been a long weekend, and it's going to be an even longer week. As I mentioned a few posts ago, my granddaddy died on Saturday. Visitation was Sunday afternoon, and the funeral was yesterday. We've been expecting him to pass away for some time now, so it wasn't a surprise or anything, but I expect it's still going to hurt for a while.

On the Shoney's front, I closed Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights, and I'll be closing again tonight. Then I'm training a new waitress tomorrow during the day and again on Thursday night. Which, for those of you who aren't math fans, adds up to seven straight days of working. Needless to say, I'm already exhausted and expect to stay that way for a few more days.

Still, it should hopefully be better this weekend. Three of my friends from college (Laura, Whitney, and Crystal) are going to be coming up sometime Friday. The exact time will depend on whether or not they skip some of their classes, but they'll most likely arrive sometime mid-afternoon. We're going to pick up a couple of pizzas, sit around my room watching Supernatural or Doctor Who or something else along those lines, and generally be complete geeks. Then we're going to drive up to Nashville to see the 9:55 p.m. showing of Star Trek at the IMAX theater up at Opry Mills. After that, we're going to head back to my house where we will then help Laura belated celebrate her 21st birthday by plying her with alcohol and then taking many, many, many videos.

Switching subjects, Dom DeLuise died last night. He was one of the staples of my childhood (The Secret of NIMH, All Dogs Go to Heaven, An American Tail, The Muppet Movie, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Blazing Saddles... actually pretty much anything by Mel Brooks. What can I say? My parents weren't exactly worried about what we watched growing up).

On the Dreamwidth front, I'm crossposting over there and occasionally checking my reading page, but - for the time being - I'm still very much focusing on LiveJournal. I just don't have time at the moment to keep up with both my circle and my friends list, and while I expect that will change in the future once real life calms down a bit, for now I just can't do it.

That said, I have two new invites for anyone who's interested. First come, first served. And they're gone.
