RL Update

My mom's side of the family celebrates Thanksgiving on the Saturday after the holiday, so everyone (minus my cousin, Chelsea, who's in the band at Auburn University and had to play at the Iron Bowl this afternoon) was supposed to arrive at my grandparents' house around 3:30 or so. Mike, Cindy, and Casey (uncle, aunt, and cousin - Chelsea's family) got there around 3:00 and found my grandmother collapsed in the kitchen. They called an ambulance and then let the family know what was going on. My aunt, Renee, and uncle, Kirt, got there around the same time as the ambulance.

I stayed at home to man the phones, since news travels fast around here. My dad went to stay with my grandfather at his house (he's in the intermediate stage of Alzheimer's - he knows who people are for the most part, but any changes from his normal routine make him really confused), while my brother had to go to work. My mom and everyone else went to the local hospital.

It's been confirmed that Granny definitely had a stroke. She's responsive and knows what's going on, but her left side is paralyzed. They're going to be moving her to the hospital in Nashville later tonight, but they don't know exactly when because the cloud cover means they can't use the helicopter. It will have to be by ambulance, and there was someone else who had to be moved before they could send her.

My dad's going to spend the night with Granddaddy, who's probably going to be in pretty bad shape. Granny literally does everything for him, so it's a big deal when anything happens to her. Mom's going to stay at the hospital in Nashville. Guy (little brother) and I are going to stay at home, dealing with the phones and taking care of the animals and such here.

I'm supposed to head back to school tomorrow, but we'll see how things go. Right now, it looks like I'll still be going back - albeit later than planned. Anything's possible, though.
