I signed up for yuletide yesterday, pretty soon after they opened up registration. I'm pretty sure that I was #144 or something around that number. Since my life's insane this year, what with graduation and everything, I only signed up to write fandoms that I knew that I could pull off without having to re-read or re-watch anything. And I still ended up volunteering to write for 75 fandoms.

. . . yeah. That's probably a sign that I'm familiar with way too many fandoms.

If you haven't heard the news, they've announced casting spoilers for Being Human. I'm waiting to see how these actors work with each other before I make any decisions, but I'm definitely looking forward to the series.

Who else is keeping their fingers crossed that the actual series will be as good as the pilot?

Some of John Williams' most famous movie themes, completely turned on their heads. A capella.

Trust me guys, you need to see this one. Especially if you're a Star Wars fan.

I'm sure most of you have heard already, but Barack Obama's grandmother died today. I knew they were saying she probably wouldn't live to see the election, but it's still really sad when you consider that she basically raised him. At least she lived long enough to see him get this far.

In other election news, the school system I'm teaching has in-service tomorrow so none of the kids will be there. We're going to be meeting at another school to talk about discipline and the like, so there's a good chance that we'll let out early (mainly so that any teachers who haven't voted yet can do so). If so, I'm seriously considering driving back to school from Jackson, changing into jeans and a T-shirt, and then heading back to Jackson to see if I can help out in any way.

Or, if nothing else, I could put on an Obama shirt/pin and go wandering around the mall and other places where lots of people will be. The last time I did that, I got into several discussions with people: Democrats, Republicans, and scarily conservative Christians who told me I was going to hell. Who knows? If it convinces one person to go out and vote (for whoever they wish) who wouldn't have otherwise, then it would be worth it.

Okay, as most of you know, I'm graduating in December. I'm really hoping to get a teaching job lined up (preferably as far away from the Bible Belt as possible, though I know that's probably unlikely). Does anyone have any recommendations for school systems where I should put in my application, general areas to look into, websites to check out, etc.?

I've already put my application in at a few school systems in Tennessee, just so I might have a chance of getting something lined up (though most history teachers around here are usually coaches), but I'd really love some suggestions. I'm not sure how well I'd be able to handle an majorly inner city school, but other than that I'm willing to try anything.
