It was clearly a mistake when the package from China arrived on Kyuhyun's lanky hands. Behind him was a snickering Ahra-unnie and her make-up kit that was made from the finest substances of the said country at her possession. Maybe their grandmom made a little boo-boo and sent the the only male of the Cho siblings a doll gift.
Yes, it was a doll but not-your-usual-kind-of-stuffed-animal-cutesy doll. Rather it was tall - for about 14 inches, Ahra measured, - hard and almost human-looking. Heck, it was so human but rescaled to a small height. It had a face, porcelain-white complexion, clothes and distinct Asian, raven eyes. One thing to be noted though, this doll was grinning so happily and delightfully.
"It looks so beautiful." Ahra cooed and Kyuhyun shot him an are-you-kidding look while he held the doll at eye's length, inspecting every detail that seemed so intricate for a doll. "And amazing! Kyuhyun, don't throw it away, alright? Keep it!"
"You're kidding. I don't want it. Why don't YOU keep it?"
"Doy, that ain't mine! It's yours so man up! Some guys keep dolls too, you know."
Kyuhyun rolled his eyes. "Yeah, who are closet-sissies."
In the end, the male had no choice but keep it after finding out a little note that came from the package, written in crooked Hangul text, Cho Kyuhyun! I saw this item at a local shop here in Beijing and it's soooo cute! You just had to be the one to receive it! Don't you dare keep it inside a box, alright? The seller said that that doll is special since it's one of its kind! Don't you just love its clothes? Well, love you, sweetheart! Take good care of it! PS. There was a Starcraft convention going on. I wasn't able to go in since, well, the young kids shooed me away! I'm not THAT old, am I? AM I?
---
The next day, he found out that the name of the doll was Mimi. Another mistake that was since it was rather obvious that the doll was a man and, seriously, who in their right mind would name a sissy doll Mimi? Nonetheless, it was better than naming it Artanis or Beethoven. Or much worse, Joe.
Mimi was good. Really good.
And Kyuhyun spent the rest of the day after school reading the manual, only to discover that a doll like Mimi - a ball-jointed doll - was really special since its joints were completely movable and twistable. To check the authenticity of ball-jointed dolls, whenever they move or avert their faces at the slightest angle, ball-jointed dolls' expression changed from one thing to another instantly.
The manual was spot-on. Kyuhyun simply titled Mimi's head downwards and it looked like the doll was thinking deeply about happy thoughts with its lips pursed and curved upward, very different from his default just-smiling-at-you expression.
"White suits you, huh?" Because Mimi had trademark clothes - white blazer covering a striped polo, black pants and sneakers - on. The style was chic and whoever thought of this wardrobe deserved a good clap since it looked great on a doll. What more if this clothing were to be worn a by person? Setting that thought aside, Kyuhyun placed the doll on his desk at sitting position, looked at at it one last time and slept for the next day.
He'd probably tell Sungmin about this sooner or later. Or tomorrow.
---
"Oh, so you finally cracked, huh? I thought spending so much time for Starcraft made you manlier. Guess didn't work." Sungmin laughed, only to be thrown a piece fish meat at his face. "HEY!"
"Look who's talking! I'm not the one who looks and acts like a girl here."
"Do I sense envy here?" Sungmin quirked a knowing brow. Kyuhyun snorted and chomped his lunch and quietly wished that his best friend would choke on his carbonated drink. Darn, it didn't. "Well, anyway, show it to me! BJDs are expensive, don't you know? There are worth thousands! I wanna see one myself! I read that they're too beautiful to be true!"
"I'm not even gonna ask why you know that."
Sungmin waved a dismissive hand. "Unlike you who spends every moment playing, I do and read some real things. BJDs are treasures, Kyu. Take good care of it!"
"That's the second time I hearing it."
"Bring it tomorrow, yah!"
"As you request, your impatient-ness."
The two assumed that no one was listening to their trivial conversation but as soon as Kyuhyun disappeared for his next class, a figure stood and followed stealthily behind. With fumbling fingers and racing heart, this figure watched Kyuhyun taking books from his locker and proceeding to his destination.
A sigh escaped and a thought rattled minds. Why was admiring from afar so difficult? If there were any chances to just come right up and talk to Kyuhyun, capture it. Apparently though, it wasn't happening and things weren't as easy as it seemed.
Zhou Mi felt crestfallen. He'd really need to talk to this Cho Kyuhyun, a third year who stole a senior's heart. Zhou Mi's innocent heart.
---
After three days of debates, Kyuhyun carefully (and finally!) tucked Mimi inside his bag and ran off the catch the next bus. Unfortunately he wasn't fast enough and now had to walk from to school for a good one hour. This morning, it started awful and with headache and aching legs. Oh well, at least Kyuhyun had Mimi behind him.
Okay, whatever that meant, Kyuhyun wasn't sure what it was. It just came out. Naturally. Unexpectedly.
---
"Idiot! You missed first period! If you're going to tell me that you slept-in because you were pawning people in the net, stay still while a hit with my chemistry book!" Sungmin flailed around, only to be ceased when a thing - long, lightweight and unmoving - was shoved against his heaving chest and waving arms. He paused, looked downward and no sooner than 1-2-3, he squealed loudly.
Passerby's - random students, for sure - stared in wonder while others eyed them suspiciously.
"Oh my god! Is this Mimi?! He's so cute! And handsome! And so cute! Did I already say cute! Kyaah!"
Kyuhyun grabbed him by the shoulders and whispered quickly, "Stop jumping around! People are looking!" When the nosy students walked away, the younger male released his grasp and sighed. "Yeah, that's him, err, it. Mimi."
With eyes twinkling and lips smiling, Sungmin placed the doll at his arms in sitting position. "Now this is what I call a perfect being. He's flawless, beautiful and everything. Did the manual say anything about a personality? I read just days ago that BJDs posses traits designed by the creator."
Kyuhyun closed his locker and did a double-take. Personality? Oh, wait. He did read something like that in the manual. "They say that Mimi's mysterious, quiet and reserved. Another thing is graceful and smart. I think? Not sure, really."
"Aww, you're mysterious? That's so cool." Sungmin cooed at the doll and gave it a cuddly hug. "I wish you were mine! No, wait, better yet, I wish you were real! Don't you think so too, Kyu?"
"A perfect being is too scary. Besides, if Mimi were real, what are the chances we'd meet one?"
"You're lame." Sungmin stuck out a pink tongue. Kyuhyun retorted with a scrunched-up face. Now that rummaging and bag-content organizing was done, third period was soon to start so the duo, plus the quiet Mimi, went off for next class.
Little did they know that just beside the locker, an empty room, the same figure from before sat quietly and listened to them the whole time. Now there was a growing interest with Mimi if Cho Kyuhyun thought that Doll Mimi was perfect. Zhou Mi just had to take a good look of this Mimi.
"Hey! No one is allowed to by-stand in any room! Go on, scat!" The janitor waved a broom around and Zhou Mi broke a run for it with one thing in mind and heart: Kyuhyun the third year student who seemed to have his interest revolved around playing games. And a doll.
---
How it happened, he didn't know. One hour ago, they were doing their physical examination activities and next thing Kyuhyun noticed his bag was unusually light and unbulky. He would now bring Mimi at school simply for the reason of Kyuhyun wanted to. It didn't matter if there was a need to stuff his bag silly as long as Mimi was in it.
But now it wasn't. Mimi was missing.
"Oh, shit. Oh, shit. Oh, shit." Profanities flowed out naturally as Kyuhyun took out stuff from his bag only to find the bottom doll-less. He did a frantic search inside the gym, the locker room and showers and back to where he placed his bag and found nothing. This made the male more frustrated, angry and, for the first time, worried.
Why was he worried for a little doll, Kyuhyun didn't know the reason why.
With a swift motion, he flipped-open his mobile and did a quick dial. After two rings - as always - the line was patched-through. "Crap, Sungmin. I think someone took Mimi!"
At the end of the line, Sungmin dashed to nearest quiet spot. "What?! No way! Where did you place him last?"
And so the search was on. It was early in the morning and Kyuhyun felt worn-out already.
---
Kyuhyun did a turn at corner and scanned for anything that resembled his doll - small but not tiny, wearing white, black hair, big smile, anything that would look like him, err, it. There were people holding unusual knick-knack on their hands and arms but it wasn't his Mimi. Then again, why would anyone steal Mimi in the first place? Did this public school and its students knew about the price of a BJD? Were they out to sell Mimi away?
Oh, great. If that really happened, Kyuhyun's head would be owned by his grandmom... and Ahra! He'd really REALLY needed to get back his doll. This was going insane.
It would seem that he wouldn't see Mimi inside the corridors so he dashed outside to the fields. He was about the make an exit turn when a body suddenly stepped out of a classroom and collided with him. Kyuhyun was thrown back and so was the unidentified person.
"Geez, sorry about that. You just appeared like that and I wasn't looki---
Kyuhyun's breath got caught inside his throat and eyes grew instantly wide at the sight of white blazers, striped polo, black bottom and sneakers attire. Eyes were raven-black and so was the hair. Lastly and this was the unbelievable final straw, the face - everything from eyebrow to lips - resembled his missing doll.
This person, this man - a living, breathing and alive male - who was sitting-shocked looked like Mimi! His BJD Mimi! What in the world was going on?
Out of nowhere, Sungmin appeared from one of the corners and dashed towards Kyuhyun - "Hey, did you find Mim---" - when he halted and gaped at the sight before him, "K-Kyuhyun...? What did YOU do...?"
"I-I-Idiot! I didn't do anything...!"
Again, he just had to ask. What in the world was going on?!
---
A/N: If you looked at it very VERY closely, Doll Me could actually be Doll Mi - that is to say Doll Zhou Mi. Hah. And juuust in case you haven't seen any Ball-Jointed Dolls before, you might want to check
this and
this out. So yeah, imagine a Zhou Mi-looking doll like that. OMG. I'd want one. SRSLY. DDDD:
Lastly, Doll Mimi was wearing the one Zhou Mi wore during their ME music vid! I really REALLY love that outfit of his! He still had long hair back then!
