Watching one of his followers use one of Reich's "accumulators", a wooden booth with a metal interior designed to focus positive energy, it's hard to believe U.S. authorities were perturbed by such a kooky and harmless philosophy.

If I remember correctly, Reich got into trouble when he claimed orgone technology had health benefits and started (allegedly) curing cancer with it. His book, The Cancer Biopathy, certainly caused a stir.

He has a very interesting but ultimately tragic story if you have the chance to read about him. The Wikipedia entry seems to cover the basics.

I did read about him before I wrote the entry and my friend had told me a bit about him before I watched the movie. I'd heard bits and pieces about him before that, too.

Reich got into trouble when he claimed orgone technology had health benefits and started (allegedly) curing cancer with it.

I read the FDA were looking at it as a scam. Which still doesn't seem to justify book burning.

Ah, ok. There was a time when I researched Reich and his work, but it was difficult to find solid information. Only when I read pieces of his work did it come together in my mind.

Agreed. I don't think anything justifies book burning.
