I rather enjoyed the Shadow, although I wasn't blind to its faults even when I saw it (if you want a movie that makes this film look like a masterpiece in comparison, despite being almost equal in production quality, look no further than The Phantom). I agree that Baldwin was an easy, natural choice, well placed at that point in his career

I do remember finding the film need to suggest that Cranston was somehow a lesser psychic or whatever because he couldn't handle that damned dagger just pointless.

I don't know that I'd tap Lynch to do it, I think his films are going somewhere else at this point.
For such a long career, he's actually made very few films, I'd say he could go just about anywhere.
The real question for me is who you would cast as the Shadow at this point.
I wouldn't mind seeing Alec Baldwin in the role again, actually, except I wouldn't want it to be part of the 1994 film's continuity and I can see how it'd be hard to convince the audience it wasn't.
I'm having trouble thinking of an American actor I like who would fit the bill.
