In the books, Tyrion comes frustratingly close to meeting Daenerys and then ends up somewhere else. There's a lot of chaos and Tyrion uses his skills to get in good with mercenaries and presumably will meet Daenerys soon - just as soon as the next book comes out.

And the Mad King was Aemon's nephew. Aemon's brother is Aegon who is a kid in the Dunk & Egg prequels.
