I couldn't decide between a relationship or essay meme, so I'm just going to do a question meme! For those who don't remember how this works, you ask me a question about anything. It can be in character, out of character, relationship, what they think of this situation, why they do that voodoo that they do, who I want to top you into apping, which ( Read more... )

OH. Right. I kinda forgot I'd asked about that before, so. Hence my puzzlement. But just to respond in general since I didn't get a direct question:

Frankly, I'm amused by the idea that anyone, even Kino, would consider Thor normal in any regard. Since he aged back up, though, I don't think it's occurred to Thor to try finding anyone he'd met anyway, but I'm also entirely in favor of having them run into each other again.

For Ashe, it's funny that you bring up the idea of a sort of de facto sibling relationship between them, because that's ground Thor has covered before with other people--Balder in canon, and Imoen and Lady in Camp. But it totally hasn't occurred to him that it might be developing again with Ashe, and that might be because I think there's still some attraction to her simmering on some level. I think that also informs what you describe as him being overly cautious--it's more that he's trying to respect her personal space, both physically and emotionally, than him thinking she's delicate and would break under pressure.

I... don't really have a follow-up question right now, but if you want to ask anything else, go for it!

OH I. FORGOT TO ASK. OOPS!!

Well, Kino is a sort of strange child from a strange land. To her, it was completely normal to lose your free will and just go on with life. It took someone else telling her there are other options for her to wonder about anything else. . . And she's very open to other people and the way they live, just because her world view got flipped upside down when she was young. Frankly, she's seen a lot crazier shit than a young Godling when she's older.

Ashe hasn't written him off completely! Rather, she's a sort of slow person who tends to be friends before lovers with people in my mind. . . Because every male person you could ship her with doesn't approach her on a "sexual" level, first. They are just friends, people who will set her straight, and so on. Which is why I think Ashe sort of wants Thor to buck-up and just. . . Cross lines! Because she'd allow it. YES.

Shameless question, first: WHERE'D THE NEW ICONS FOR THOR COME FROM?

Well, I'll keep that in mind and we'll see what happens~

Supposedly, Thor: Tales of Asgard was going to be the next animated Marvel direct to DVD feature, but I think it got supplanted by the Planet Hulk project. Which I'm okay with, because PH was one of the best Hulk stories in recent years, but y'know... it's not about teenage Thor and Loki having wacky adventures in Asgard. And thus I don't have more to icon from.

Apparently, these images were from the Special Features of the last Marvel animation project, Hulk vs.. I don't have that DVD so I haven't seen it, but I found these screencaps and thought they were perfect for new icons of teen!Thor. And then I also found this guy's DevArt gallery, featuring the concept art he did for the Tales of Asgard movie. I love his design for Thor, even though the final version changed it, and so I made it my new default icon. I also particularly like his design for Loki.

If you could have any of your canons developed into another form of media, what would they be? A Chrono Crusade feature film, a Kino's Journey video game...?

. . . Oh. Oh, that is awesome. I LIKE THE ORIGINAL DESIGN TOO. Ahhhh. Is it ever going to come out? Or just. . . Is that it?

Pfffthahaha! Okay, before I answer the question, I'll get into this. . . Kino's Journey has ten-eleven novels, one anime series, two feature films, one OVA, several drama CDs, three video games, one spin-off novel series with three volumes of its own, three artbooks, and multiple figurines. This series is well-loved, and I adore that about it. I only wish the novels would be translated and released to the US.

Moving on! I really, really deeply want a Shinshi Doumei Cross anime! It's the only real canon I play from that doesn't have a moving version of itself and while the drama CDs are nice. . . I really can't sort of hear Takanari in them. Granted, I probably wouldn't icon it. BUT MOVING SHINSHI, OH MY GOD.

Talk to me about Xanatos' canon!

I THINK IT IS. My hope is that they've just pushed it back--there's a live-action Thor movie coming down the pike that's supposed to tie in with Iron Man 2, the Captain America movie, and then culminate in an Avengers movie, so maybe they're just delaying the release until it's closer to those other movies.

Also holy crap. I didn't know Kino was that wide-ranging.

... oh god. I could wax poetic about Gargoyles for hours, but suffice to say this--I think it's legitimately one of the best non-comedic cartoon series ever produced in America, rivaled only by Batman: the Animated Series in terms of quality. The story: glide-capable monsters from Dark Age Scotland who turn to stone during the day are unleashed on modern day NYC as its mysterious new protectors, fighting crime, righting wrongs, and generally being cool. It's got everything from magic to sci-fi to interspecies romance to classical mythology to Shakespeare to the Matter of Britain to other folklore from around the world. It's possible I obsess easily, but I credit less than 10 minutes of one episode with igniting my lifelong fascination with King Arthur legends. It's complex and well-written and funny and has a great voice cast, with generally good animation quality and some stellar examples--pretty much everything you could want in an animated series. Plus it's the source of the Xanatos Gambit, and the introduction of that concept into storytelling makes it that much more awesome.

... okay, because I'm still fixating on this: what lines does Ashe want Thor to cross?

Haha, fuck yes. That sounds infinitely more likely!

Kino is so damn moe that she just sells. I have no idea. It's Japan. She gets shipped with a dog and a talking bike mostly. /)_(\

Suddenly, I remember watching that series now. But I don't think. . . It was just a few episodes. I feel like I have missed something now. :(

I CAN SUMMARIZE LIKE THIS! Whereas Ashe is usually a pain like this: Gran Kiltias: Truly the words of a hume-child.
Ashe:I am descended from the Dynast-King himself.

When certain people talk, they make her shut up. . . Because they are right and put her in her place. . . And she lets them!
Ashe: You would have me live in shame?
Basch: If that is your duty. Yes.

Ashe: This is the sword. The nethicite destroyer.
Balthier: Should it find it's mark.

So, yeah, it's when people she trusts to an extent top her.

DO YOU SHIP THEM? :>

There used to be episodes of Gargoyles available on YouTube, which is big because Disney only released the first season (13 episodes), and then the first half of the 52 episode second season on DVD--the back half is still MIA and, knowing Disney, will never actually see the light of day.

And for your question--oh god, yes. I would've thought that was obvious.

I kid, I kid--it's actually a little more complex than that, but the short story is that I could easily see them as a pairing, because Ashe is totally Thor's type and they have such a similarity of status, experience, and demeanor that meshes together so nicely. But Thor is always a tricky one for shipping for me because he's so devoted to his canon partner, Sif, and I don't think he'd ever consciously act to betray her. So Sif is always in the way when I entertain shipping notions for the godling, and in such a way that she can't just be written off. But Sif aside? Oh yeah. As you said, they're cute.

... what about you?

. . . Go, team Disney.

WELL, IT WAS, BUT I'M A LITTLE OBTUSE AT TIMES. And, yeah, there's like all kinds of tricky business for me with Ashe, because she always has lots of options. . . Despite not having any real options! Really, Ashe does mesh with a lot of other guys in camp and in canon, but she sort of knows that tangling in her position will just end badly. Delita sort of got her to admit that even if it's a bad idea. . . She's still just nineteen! And has a whole life to live! So, bad ideas are sometimes the very best ones too. Thankfully, all potentials are slow to make moves or not present in camp. /o/

So, in short, they are fucking adorable, and I like the thought. But, dear lord, Ashe catches so many goddamn eyes.

PS: I will reply to that thread. I am just trying to get over WHOLE ESSAY REPLY shock. :x

. . . I'm out of questions, too. \o/

Yeah, I think I saw something along those lines somewhere.

PS: ... sob. Sibling rivalry is a Big Important Topic for Thor. And those are just his canon siblings, saying nothing of the not!sibs he's found in Camp.

Haha, Ashe is tons more subtle. I mean, she hasn't even kissed any of the people that I list as potentials. It's just. . . A matter of who moves first, man.

SHE DIDN'T MEAN TO HIT THAT TOPIC ON ACCIDENT. But Ashe is always awesome at social graces. What are you talking about?

Oh, just following up on what I mentioned earlier when you addressed Ashe sorta thinking of Thor as a brother. Since coming to Camp, Thor's had a number of relationships where he's more or less adopted people as siblings--Imoen, because she's the daughter of a god (and also adorable); Lady, because she was one of his first comrades in Camp and he just considers her a friend as close as family; Gwendolyn before she left, because she was the daughter of Odin in her world (making Oswald, who's still here, Thor's not!brother-in-law). Oh, and also in canon is Balder, who is Thor's best friend and secretly his half-brother, but neither of them know it yet--but they already think of themselves as close enough to be brothers anyway.

So unfortunately, asking Thor anything about his siblings is bound to get a lengthy answer.

Haha, I see. Ashe is sort of. . . She's very good about realizing when people are Damn Good Friends and Family. Ashe just sort of. . . Associates people that she's warm without any pressing need as more family. She was more comfortable with her brothers in my mind, tagging along on adventures, getting to be the baby, and being spoiled so much. Then again, Basch blurs between family and friend. . . He just simply is. So, Ashe's categories may not be as explicit as they seem.

I have no idea really.
