Last night at work was... fun. For lack of a better word to describe the delicately painful process that it actually entailed.
I came home and eventually played more Saikyou team. I ended up giving up on Akaya's team and starting a new one. I put Niou in charge (hah) and I'm pretty sure in the long run I'll call them '立海五弱'. This will be especially entertaining when they cream Sanada.
I gave up on the old team mostly because I was getting bored with losing... I tried Fuji as a leader, aiming for the same team (or similar), but gave up when it was clear that his stats weren't right for recruiting the people I wanted.
So, in the interest of keeping myself entertained, I picked Niou. I more or less expected that - like Jackal implied - he'd be a shitty leader and the team would fall apart. I recruited Yagyuu first (he and Niou get along almost obscenely well, it turns out), and then eventually the Brat and Bunta. When I recruited Marui, my exact comment was 'I have Hinoe on my team, because he didn't know how to sound like Bunta yet!' It took longer to get Jackal because I had to raise Niou's stamina, but then I had my five.
Working people up was fun, and I think my success came from focusing on their strengths more than trying to balance out weaknesses. Granted, I pushed everyone up to at least B in all stats, but it seems to have worked. In every way that Akaya's team failed on saturday, this one was awesome. There was some discontent when Yagyuu and Jackal's stats got too similar, but in general things were good. When I had a meeting with five weeks left, the most they wanted was for me to to more special individual practices, and Marui and Kiriara were both like 'Dude! This team is awesome!'
The practice matches that I played (three of them) were more fun than the tournament itself.
The first two were unremarkable, both finished in two rounds. But the third was against a team led by Sengoku. D1 actually pulled off The Switch against Eiji and Saeki in that match. But mostly I loved it because I got to watch my Aka-chan slaughter Echizen in singles 2. They had all these amazing Volleys at the net and Akaya was just... mmyep. I felt retrospectively vindicated for Yukimura at the end.
But, all good things must come to an end, and we moved into the final tournament...
First round of the actual tournament was against a team headed by Kaneda.
I don't know what their name/theme was, but he only had the Jimis and Muromachi.
The Jimis were a pain in the butt (/good/ defence) but ended up defaulting against Marui/Jackal... our stamina was far superior.
Singles two was Yagyuu against Kaneda. I'm not even going to talk about how smoothly that match went.
Second Round was against Akazawa's team. Kaidoh and Saeki played Doubles, against my Rikkai D2. It wasn't quite the slaughter I'd hoped for, but it went well.
I fell asleep during the singles two match of the second round. Kirihara beat Kabaji anyway. Anyway, I woke up at 6 and crawled into bed. Where I proceeded to have
The first thing I remember was walking through the store in the dark (after all the lights were out at night). And a guest asking me to help her with a home dec roll. I didn't explain at the time that we were closed, just helped her grab it, thinking I'd finish it up and then we'd leave. Hah. Once I made it to the cut table (it was back in my dream configuration where theres tables in a U shape instead of just a || shape), I realized that it was too dark for me to see anything and it took me a while to go get a couple of the lights so I could cut her fabric. (I remember that it was the gold with squares that's in position 20-2, but that she pulled it out of 24-4-ish) It was around that time that I was no longer alone in the store with this woman (which had been nerve-wracking)... instead four of my best girls (Britni and Kim at least) were already there too and cutting for other guests. There was a line. And various confusions and demanding angry guests got bad really fast. People taking up too much counter space and cutting in line and being angry. I eventually looked forward and realized that I'd already CLOSED ALL THE REGISTERS, because we were CLOSED. By that time there was an extra crowd of people outside banging on the front doors and windows and chanting scarily for something (probably for us to let them in). That was when I finally kicked back to reality... even though I kind of masochistically wanted to keep going. After I finally woke up out of it, I meant to get up, but instead ended up dosing and not dreaming for the next two hours. I'm really glad I get a day off, I think I need one.
So far today, I've handled my car insurance and finished (maybe) Saku's flowers. While doing that I finished up Season 1 of B5 as well, and now want to go buy Season 2... though I'm going to miss Sinclair. I like him better than John, especially now that I'm older and little more... calm. But right now, I'm wearing my Alias (Saku's wig-to-be), and trying to get up the will to actually work on Kagetoki's coat, gun or shirt and armor. Or to go out to the store and freak Val out with my hair.
Semi-finals round was against Fuji's team. Momo, Sengoku and Yuushi, which mostly means that Fuji has to play. With Sengoku and Momo in doubles, the result was much the same as D2 at the Kantou finals. Even if Bunta did take two Jack Knives to the head and was doing poorly on stamina by the end.
Yagyuu v Yuushi in S1 almost made me wish I'd let Akaya play. Though their drawn out volleys and basic play entertained me. They're both baseline players, and it showed. The amount of time at the net was minimal. The match went to tie break and was close up to 3-3, when Yagyuu snapped out of it and took the next four points straight. The man is sexy, what can I say?
Finals are against Yuuta's team again. Choutarou and Itsuki are better than they were in practice. But not a lot.
Kirihara more or less wiped the floor with Bane-san. And thus the tournament was mine. I /tried/ to give Yagyuu the final match, but the brat was too strong.
