Gankutsuou - Final

Feb 08, 2008 23:19

We (finally) watched the last eight episodes of Gankutsuou tonight.

I... was actually attached to the outcome of things by the end. And I was somewhat satisfied with the ending. Albert redeeming the Count and in that way facilitating his death, which by his own repeated admission, was a release into peace.
I'm still very upset about Franz, of course, but in the end (the /very/ end) he did succeed in his goal, so that felt good.
I'm glad that Fernand kicked the bucket, though it could have happily happened several episodes earlier. He was an asshat anyway.
I loved the little bits of Haidee, Baptistan, and Bertucchio. And Peppo! &hearts And Ali, creepy tentacle-healy man that he is. I was very fond of them in the end, and glad that they found a way to continue happily.
Though I never completely gave up my appreciation for Andrea's pretty, I /did/ hate him for a while - the multiple layers of ickyness and incest didn't sit well with me. But after his whole scene with the court, his completely escaping justice /and/ achieving revenge /and/ getting to be running around five years later sill being a gorgeous criminal was totally fine with me. I'm going to blame it on awesome voice acting skillz.

I was proud of everyone in the end really. Though whatever drugs they gave Valentine must have been /damn/ good though, since she still looked high FIVE YEARS LATER.

Also, Albert and Eugenie FAILING to be married and have beautiful children was rather disappointing and should be rectified post haste.

END

Overall, I'd give it 3.5 stars. It was good. The plot was fairly intriguing, and I was attached to some of the characters. It helped that it was beautifully animated and had a wonderful cast, but I'm probably not going to watch it again for a long while.
