I... I wanted Light to win. I wanted to see his new world. See him at it's head.
I could have countenanced him losing to L. He an L were equals. In reasoning, in skill...

I never much liked Near. You never got to see inside his head. He never got explained. He was just... there. Being a nuissance.
I'll grant that Light made mistakes. His pride, his betrayal of those close to him... all are what let him be caught. Without those years of pride while he held L's name, he would never have been so careless or so overconfident.
I was satisfied by the ending though. Matsuda fighting back at last. And the long moment of calm once Ryuuk had written his name. Without the time to reflect, it would have been harder to let it go. For once. I'm ok knowing that it's over.
Near did try to put Light's crime into perspective. He was a murderer. The Note is a weapon. At the core of it, that's all there is.
I am a little curious what happens once he dies... but I think the implication is nothing. No afterlife. No heaven, no hell, no reincarnaiton. Nothing. Just... ceasing to be.
Before that, today was Thanksgiving. There was much food and movies.
