Excuse me while I geek out

Most people know me online as a Buffy fan, an Angel fan, a Doctor Who and Torchwood fan, and a love of all things Asian. What most people don't realize is that I'm also a Trekkie and have been for a while. I'm not a hardcore one who can speak Klingon or name all the species in the Alpha Quadrant or even know all the "Damnit Jim, I'm a doctor not a..." quotes.

I just happen to be very passionate about The Next Generation, Voyager and I'm starting to find a new found appreciation for Deep Space Nine. I also love the fan series-es (is that a word?) Star Trek: New Voyages (also known as Star Trek: Phase Two) and Star Trek: Hidden Frontier.

I never really had a love of Hidden Frontier until well... two days ago when I watched seasons six and seven back to back non stop and then Odyssey and Helena. I've been watching it off and on for the past little while, angry at several characters for being stupid and just generally pissing me off. Then season six started and the actor for my favourite character Ro Naven changed to Bobby Rice, who plays Peter Kirk in New Voyages - yes Kirk, he's Captain Kirk's nephew and he just so happens to be gay.

Ro is also gay, or bi... pan... what's the term I should use? He's open to all situations, that's it. He's also Bajoran, which happens to be one of my favourite species.

I had always admired Hidden Frontier for its unassuming take on homosexual relationships, treating them as just another normal thing, which is how it should be treated. It was the first Star Trek series to show an on screen male-male kiss, and the first series to feature a love triangle between three men.

Now, I don't want to start ranting and give away details on who gets who and who does what with so-and-so for those who want to watch the series but haven't yet. All I can say is, if you're a Star Trek fan and have an open mind, its a very good series to look at.

Anyone on here whose seen it, give me a dingle, I'm going to be iconing for the next little while.

rant, fangirl
