So I'm in the camp that hated the last five minutes. I found it really irritating that Dean fought for Sam, really fought for him, with the into-the-ground devotion that I think is a hallmark of his character, and then... gave up when the going got tough? I realize maybe it was hopeless, I realize we do not all want a repeat of S2, but... I hate the whole Lisa storyline so deeply. I'm mad that Dean gave up so fast, and I'm mad that Dean giving up meant he ran straight to this totally fictional thing. I get that it makes a nice bookend, playing house the way Sam was in S1, but jesus. Has no one learned anything from five seasons of this? Dean wants Sam, Sam wants Dean, and they are each other's family. Their love saved the world. Can we just quit with the idea that Dean's ultimate fantasy is Lisa?
My ideal ending would have involved that last conversation between Dean and Cas, and then maybe Dean's acceptance that he was going to keep his promise and not go after Sam, and then Sam showing up in the passenger seat. Because Dean fucking deserves better than a fake family.
And if Sam abandons Dean next season and lets him think he's dead to protect him and leave him to PTA meetings and lawn mowing? I WILL BE SO FUCKING UNAMUSED.
