The Great Backyard Bird Count. The basic premise is that you sit someplace (whether it's your backyard bird feeder or a park) and count all the birds you see for at least fifteen minutes, then report your list. You can do it even if you're horrible at identifying birds - they have good lists and tricks for distinguishing between tricky species. It's definitely fun, and really helps conservation, so maybe give it a shot. :)
Let me know how you did, and maybe the person with the best list will get a wee prize of some sort.
