I adore Uptown

I am so lucky.

I live in a place that continues to surprise me with its beautiful details and gorgeous concepts. I run-walked down Fremont and each block brought a new surprise: peace gardens, architectural intrigue, a man with an exotic bird perched on his laptop, a gorgeously-clad woman who walked with a sense of worldliness.

And then I arrived at Lakewood Cemetery. It brought me to tears in so many ways, from so many directions. There was a mosaiced chapel that God drop-shipped from Italy, two older ladies staring over a hidden lake with weeping willows, messages about life and death everywhere, grassy knolls with strong oaks, a painfully-beautiful blue reflecting pool, pure serenity and reprieve from the city on a perfect day. People don't think of cemeteries as places to visit until they're older and friends begin to congregate there. Today I found such deep comfort, perspective, and reflection from visiting, and I plan to go back often, actually.

The rest of the day was spent on our gorgeous, gorgeous porch, Facebooking and programming. I designed a subroutine called "god" that creates top-level parents on a "family tree" of XML nodes. A light breeze, perfect temperature, iced tea. A perfect day.
